DSL40C Tube Swap

Hello all.
Basically, I have a DSL40C with the Sweetwater Creamback speaker upgrade. At the moment, the amp is pretty decent- although the low end is very flubby and sometimes overbearing on the classic gain channel. It is also way bright, like to the point where it's still piercing with the the treble and presence on 2. I have not done the C19 mod, but I have heard that putting in new tubes (along with a speaker, but that's taken care of already) improves the tone a lot. What do you suggest for each position?
I appreciate your time.

Gunna need a few things:

-What tubes are in there now? (Power and pre, and the positions of the pre's)
-How long have they been in there?

Should be a good start

Re: DSL40C Tube Swap

Look at my thread from a week ago.

First have it biased properly. I cannot stress this enough. They are screwy from.the factory and it makes a huge difference in how good the amp.sounds.

The TAD str EL34b's are good power tubes. If your has these, I wouldn't bother.

Among new production, I suggest you pick up an ehx for v1-3, and we sovtek lps for the PI. That is a good base to start from.

On the green crunch if you have the gain near max, it gets really tubby. Drop your resonance and Bass if you run it that high. I run mine at about 3/4 now, and Its.tighter and clearer and I can.dial in a bit more bass. The resonance IME can totally ruin the tone of the green channel. Be wary of too much.

Start with the bias, some basic preamp tube upgrades and re-evaluate. Dont get too far ahead of yourself with different power tubes and speakers.

Also break that speaker in...it needs alot of.hours at higher volumes to get worked in. If.you are playing with the master below 11 o'clock all the time, it's going to take forever.
