I have a Wolfgang with 2 Dimarzio pickups in it. It has the standard 3 way toggle switch. 1 volume, 1 tone which is also a push/pull. I need some help wiring it to get the push/pull pot to do series/parallel. I've checked the usual wiring resources, but I can't seem to find one for this.

Re: Dual humbucker wiring help

EDIT
it should go without saying, but just to be sure
you will have to swap the color codes

I saw that, but I'm still confused. Do I run the wires from both pickups the the push/pull like this?

What series/parallel wiring are you trying to get? The diagram above is for getting series/parallel out of one of your pickups. If you want the series connection to be all four coils (two from each pickup) in series look at the "megabucker" wiring on this site: http://duhvoodooman.com/musical/humbucker_mods/humbucker_mods_2.htm.

Your black wires will run to the 3-way switch first instead of the volume pots.

Re: Dual humbucker wiring help

I'm trying to get what I have today (bridge humbucker, bridge + neck humbucker, neck humbucker) in series. Plus, the same 3 way setting in parallel using the push/pull.

Re: Dual humbucker wiring help

Looks like that just gives you the series/parallel option in the middle position, when both pickups are active. I'd like to be able to run just the bridge humbucker in either series or parallel, along with the same for just the neck humbucker.

Initially, I was just going to set the push/pull up as a global coil tap, but many people have stated that parallel mode is much better than split mode for humbuckers.

Re: Dual humbucker wiring help

In that case you'll need either 2 regular push-pulls pots (one for each pickup) or a 4pdt switch to do both at once.

Re: Dual humbucker wiring help

um
I thought you wanted the parallel/series on the one pickup
my bad

you want the three standard positions ( neck/both in parallel/bridge)
and with the push-pull the option of both in series
is that correct?

Re: Dual humbucker wiring help

you will need two push pulls and follow this

your red dimarzio wire will be the black and your green dimarzio wire will be the white

EDIT no wait ignore the phase switch and you sould be good

And here's a graphic showing the DiMarzio to Seymour Duncan "translation":

Re: Dual humbucker wiring help

Wow, I didn't realize how complicated this was. The problem is, with the Wolfgang, the pickup wires run up to the horn of the guitar where the 3 way switch is. They're no where near the volume or tone knobs. Then, there is another wire running from the middle of the 3 way switch, back down through the guitar, under the pickups, to the volume knob. Neither or the red wires from the Dimarzio pickups are going to the volume or tone pots, they are both connected to the 3 way in the horn.

Plus, what are those boards in the above diagram?

Re: Dual humbucker wiring help

Does anyone know if there's a 5 way toggle switch the I can replace the 3 way toggle switch with? That might make things a bit easier.

OK, this might be what I'm looking for, but I have a few questions. Since the hot wires are going directly to my pickup selector, could I just leave them connected to the pickup selector and add another wire to the same lug on the selector that goes back to the push/pull pots? Instead of the hot pickup wire going to the pot first, then from the pot to the pickup selector, like it is in this diagram?

Re: Dual humbucker wiring help

sorry couldnt get the one with the single volume and single tone to load
see if this works

well yea that maakes much more sense
of course you can

on the tone control
since the volume control has the coil splits

yea one leg to ground
middle leg to south start on neck
bounce the top leg from pickup to selector

Brilliant
much easier
do that

Only on the tone control? What about on the volume control, where the hot from the neck pickup splits and goes to the selector and the leg on the volume control?

I'm confused about how to split the wires also. Like how the wire from the middle selector lug splits and goes to each pot. And the neck hot splits and goes to the volume pot and the selector.

Re: Dual humbucker wiring help

deep breath

in the picture you posted

the push pull on the volume control has the splits
(ignore this one)

the push pull on the tone control has the series/parallel connection

do just that

it is brilliant

if you want to have split coils too then get another push pull and replicate the entire thing

but it was my understanding that you "wanted what you have now"

Re: Dual humbucker wiring help

OK, one last thing to make sure I'm correct.

1. I would basically eliminate the top push/pull pot.
2. Connect the black and white wires from each pickup together and tape off.
3. Run the hot wire from the neck pickup straight to the selector, not need for the split off to the top pot.

Does this seem correct?
