dual JB's?

on the march

any opinions on a dual JB pickup set?

there's a Jackson Custom Shop King V for sale online that has a dual JB set. the guitar has a maple neck-thru alder wings, ebony fretboard, and OFR.

what is a JB neck like? what kind of clean tones can you get out of this setup?

thanks

Re: dual JB's?

Most people are not too big on the clean sound from the JB. A lot of players will set the JB up for a single coil split to get a better clean. As far as the dual JB set.....it's not something I would go for. I like a lower output, warmer pickup in the neck (but that's just me). If you have 2 bridge pickups in a neck/bridge set up, the wont be very ballanced in their sound. But just because I dont like it, doesnt mean other ppl wont. See what some other guys say.

Re: dual JB's?

Hamer shipped their Diablo guitars with JB's in the neck and bridge for a while. I had one and swapped in a PATBN/PATB1 combo at the earliest opportunity :D. It's not a bad combo, it just doesn't have the balance between neck and bridge that I (and I imagine most people) are used to which is to say a hotter bridge and a mellow neck.

Re: dual JB's?

Its a great setup for soloing if you don't really need a clean tone, but then again you could always coil split. The JB's clean is too twangy and brash on its own.

I love the tone of a JB in the neck. Its pure sex for that dirty bluesy rock metal lead tone.

Re: dual JB's?

If you're interested in that guitar, buy it & see how it sounds. Myself, I'd replace the neck JB with something intended to be in the neck that sounds good clean & balances with a bridge PU, like a '59N. You can sell the neck JB to pay for that.

On the bridge JB, I'd put an A2 in it to take away the ice pick spike it's famous for. If you need an A2 for that, PM me. I never get too worked up about the PU's that come in a guitar I buy, as I usually swap them out, and at the very least change the magnets. A great tone comes from a blend of wood, PU's, and magnets, and few guitars have the ideal mix unless they're tweaked.

Re: dual JB's?

I LOOOVE the Jb in the neck slot.... a bit dark, but smooth and wails like a banshee, and split almost everyone thinks it´s a real vintage single coil. It can become muddy with the wrong fingers and amp, though. I have it paired with a DUncan Custom at the bridge and they balance out perfectly.

I use my neck PUs primarily for clean sounds and leads

Re: dual JB's?

ive had them come stock in 2 Jacksons that i bought. i really liked it, but thats just me. I think i like the Jazz better in the neck but there is nothing wrong with the JB.

Re: dual JB's?

my friend has that exact guitar, with the dual JBs. it sounds wicked. cleans were good, its a familiar sound. i've only played the jb on this guitar, but all the complaints about it did not show up. the neck jb was nice and warm, responsive... definitely didn't seem hot.
