But it didn't buy me any time to think about it! Which is fine. The 59 Custom Hybrid is already unknown territory for me, but looking very promising.

About the time I realized the only PA's I already own are in storage, I started thinking they'd be a great combo myself. Especially after the reviews here and the blog posts on the site.
As for finding them, I'm in the thin tails of the probability curve known as slim to non-existing! I'm relatively confident they are in the storage I have to schedule access for, and there are almost never open appointments for hours I can practically access it.
I will mark you down as a solid vote for PA's!

The "1" set is sweet also. That's what's in my EPI LP Custom now, after I did the 1n/3 pair. I'd also do another LP with the 1n/3 pair except that I'm trying to thin my herd.

I know those Zappa guys, unlike me, had access to a lot of outboard gear. Still I seem to recall Dweezil's Green Monster Charvel getting a wide variety of tones with what, given the time, almost had to be a PATB-1 set in it.
Not to disappoint the Custom Shop, but any votes for grabbing a "1" set and giving it a go first?
Edit: Seeing some close up pics of this one, it does not have a PATB in the neck. But as I am not on a copy Dweezil tone quest, I am going to stick with PATB's in both slots.

Yes. Tone can be hard to describe in words. The PATB set is clear and articulate. Hi-fi, in a good way. They love guitar>cable>amp for sweet cleans. But they also drive pedals well.
See, I like the look of the Parallel Axis, but that description is probably why I wouldn't own them.

Artie & Mincer (can't get the @ to work - http 403 error), those are interesting observations and reactions to descriptions. Likely why we have many options for our pickups.
This is likely going OT or "tidbit trivia", but for example I am prone to playing an unplugged used electric guitar in the acoustic room and favoring one which I can feel and hear more of the vibrating strings. I always thought of this guitar as being more lively. However many on here see that as a negative, citing transfer of vibration energy from the strings to the guitar dampens the sustain of the tones the pickups can transfer to the amplifier.
I may go ahead and give the PATB 1's set a try. If they do not seem to expand the range of tones, I will try the Custom Shop set I have been considering. Honestly, I will need to spend some more time with the stock pups as I am not always big on turning down. When I first started this Topic, I was thinking pickups which might give me Custom/Jazz tones around 7 on the volume knob and offer more as I increased it.

More research this morning and I think I am in the ballpark. If this PATB-1 set is not quite there, I can swap the bridge for a CS PATB 59 Custom. I will include some links which helped me, in case anyone finds this Topic in a Search.
