...probably one of the coolest ideas I've ever seen.

Awhile ago I got a Wasabi Overdrive and was just floored that there was a second switch on there for either a 5db or a 10db boost. It was like getting not JUST an overdrive pedal but ALSO an EQ boost as well!

This one singular aspect made the pedal a major go-to for me for a long while.

Why is it that this idea hasn't been jumped on by more manufacturers?

the visualsound jekyll and hyde I own...it has two modes.

the jekyll mode has an original TS808 opamp chip but also has like an EQ thing and really just more guts to it.

The hyde mode is a heavier overdrive and has bassboost, sharp/blunt switch, etc. really neat.


combine them both....and you get the idea.....

G2d's pedals are like that. Very cool for live use. They basically got the idea off the fulltone fulldrive.

Maybe it's just me....but I almost feel like I get more than one pedal in the deal!

I wasn't aware of the Jekyll and Hyde. I may have to check one of those out!

jekyll and hyde sells for under 170$ Canadian...for that price its like you ARE getting two pedals...an overdrive and a distortion. there are more details and sound samples on their site.

I love my jekyll and mr hyde. It is like a vintage and modern version of a tube screener then another pedal similar to a higher quality boss ds1 with a scooped and full range setting. It really does all the distortion i'll ever need or clean boost.

There are a few Boss pedals which have cool extra features. The OS-2 lets you blend back and forth between OD and dist. The MD-2 lets you balance between but also cascade OD and dist tones. And the ODB-3 for bass lets you blend in a clean tone with the distorted tone. On the ODB-3, if you turn the blend knob to "clean" and increase the gain, it acts as a clean booster with bass and treble control. I just think it's fun to mess with these things.

I have an older version of the Jekyll & Hyde, and the Duplexer Plexitone Prototype, which is one channel of the Plexitone plus a boost. Not surprisingly, I'm able to cover most gain needs with those 2 and my TSL!!

You actually have quite a few nowadays. I did some research a few month ago as I was seduced by the idea. They usually don't come chip though. The SFX-03 from SD, Plexi and AC tone from Carl martin, Vox is having two in its range ,you got a whole range of four beasts for Damage control... and there are quite a few others I can't remember about.

The Plexitone is great, with two modes of drive (Crunch / High Gain) plus a clean boost. You have six options - clean (drive off), Crunch, High Gain, plus any of the preceding three with Boost. :fing2:

It's funny though...the high-gain pedals don't really appeal to me.

I'm so much more inclined towards a solid overdrive with the capacity to have a nice modest to moderate EQ boost. The 5db to 10db on the Wasabi seems like it's in the right range for my needs.

I guess it's why I've talked myself out of selling that cheap DOD EQ pedal I've had for a few years now. I'm much more inclined to want to get a good sound and then to just get "more" of it.

It look like it has two options on it....

I have my DS-1 moded to switch between two types of gain (vairable with knob, and bypass the distortion resistor to get minimal distortion)
