Duane Allman

Re: Duane Allman

I had the rare priveledge to see the Allman Brothers play live at Post College in NY around '71 or '72. Duane just smoked the place.... and as far as I could tell he was playing slide in "D" and standard. He was amazing playing and incredible solo in standard and reaching for a slide and just layin' down with the slide as well. What I found so amazing about his playing is he was so articulate with the slide at such High volume..... very difficult to do to say the least..
The Layla album to this day is one of may favorite records, Duane and Eric Wow how would you have liked to hear the conversations they must have had????

Another sidebar: not about Duane per se, but about ****ey Betts:

Me and my wife are sitting down at this little seafood place on the bay. Its called the "Outback Crabshack" that usually has some sort of "Jimmy Buffet" style guitar act going. Many folks come here by boat. So, we're sitting here supping brews and ****tails and having this huge seafood platter, and waiting to see who plays, when these kids come on stage. The lead guitarist looks about 14, bass player about 12, and drummer, maybe 10.

We think . . . ok, the owners kids get to play. About 10 minutes later, we're being blown away by some of the best honky blues I've ever heard! Turns out - this is ****ey Betts stomping ground, and this is his son, and band.

These "kids" were absolutely awesome! Made me feel like an idiot to call myself a guitar picker.

Haven't seen him since. I wonder what he sounds like now. ;)

Edit: Alright admins . . . this idiotic forum censor has to go. D**key Betts is not a dirty word!

All throughout the 90's, I was in one of L.A.'s most popular bluesrock bands, The Kinship. We had a Hammond B-3 and were a cross between Black Crowes
and Allmans. I used to play shows all the time doublebilled with the Oakley Krieger band. This may have been the band you're talking about, but they were older than
the time you saw them. It was Robbie Krieger's son on lead, Berry Oakley's son on bass/vocals, Duane Betts on 2nd lead. I hung out with them a bunch.
One of my fondest memories was standing onstage at the Coconut Teazer in Hollywood
next to these guys and Robbie Krieger, jamming on an Allman style groove.

I'm looking for the exact same thing...I dont know anyone who is good enough and my age tho. My guitar teacher and I jammed on Midnight Rider for like 10 minutes tonight, it was sweet.

If I could pick one type of band to be in, it would be a blues/rock jam band.

Re: Duane Allman

Hey, I would love to jam with you sometime...but I doubt I'll ever get to NY. If I do, it will be like 5 years. But if I ever get there, I'll let ya know.

I would love to see them live...they're playing in Rosemont, IL in Sept with Los Lonely Boys opening. I would love to see that show, but my parents probably wont let me because it's a schoolnight and its 4 hours away. :yell:

Maybe if they dont know I'm going lol.
