I love Jacksons as much as anybody but as you found out, they are not the best sounding planks out there. Welcome to the never ending quest for tone ;)

Fenderiarhs:

I had many guitars with JBs and didnt like them. They almost made give up completely on Seymours. When I bought the two American Riches I have I was concerned I wouldn't like them but I didn't care I just wanted an American Bich and Mockingbird so bad for so long I figure I would deal with it later. When I got the Bich it had JB in the bridge and a '59 in the neck. HATED IT!!! I didn't know what to do until I got my Mockingbird. That had a Custom in the bridge and a Jazz in the neck. I was blown away.

I always used EMGs to get the chunky fat tone out of it. It was very similar in whatever guitar I would put them in. The LP Custom was the best result from all of it but now, the Custom is hands down the best pickup I've ever heard. It is truly the sound I've been looking for. I love the tone from Kill 'Em All through Puppets and Mustaine's tone. The custom is the closest if not identical to them. And I would say the output is hotter than my EMGs. It wasn't till last night that I had realized this. Not only is the tone richer but its hotter as well. The Custom is the way to go. But I gotta say that I wonder now what other suprises Seymour is hiding in other pickups...

oh the posibilities...

yeah i realize that now. Awesome playing guitars just awful in the tone dept. i dont understand and how mustaine gets the tone he does, or friedman for that matter. both use jacksons and both use seymour... anywho

Anyone have any idea how i would attach the covers from allpart to the duncans i want to put in and if it would affect the tone or output?

I've thought about that. I dunno if with would have the same affect of the EMGs. I'm being whiney.

I always thought EMGs were the bomb.
Would you like a little cheese with thata whine :smack: :saeek:

We're thinking about offering black-chrome covers. What would you think about that?

Re: Ducan Custom has ruined my EMGs for me...

Mustaine actually uses a JB. Has been for years.

Re: Ducan Custom has ruined my EMGs for me...

I know he uses a JB thats what I can't figure out. I had his Sig KingV and it sounded like ****. I also had a KE2 and a SH2. Wasnt really a fan of the sound. They were just so comfy to play i held on them for a few years.

This is quite confusing as everytime i ask about the output of the custom i get different responces..........one says it is hotter than the JB because of the ceramic magnet.....somebody else says it is around the CC output, and now...... LOL you suggest it is even hotter than EMG'S.............please guys decide yourselves........

I love hearing a recording of a JB, BUT for my life I CANNOT get a great tone from it. Sure I can get some alright/mediocre stuff, but they have never blown me away like I had hoped. When I got one for my Heritage I was excited thinking I was getting the be all end all of pups. To my dismay I just couldn't use it. Put in an A2P and it is SO much better now.

In my PRS I've got a Custom/Distortion hybrid with the large mag. It has tons of grind and a thick thick sound. I was originally thinking of a custom with the larger mag for more output and a more aggressive sound, then I decided I should just go for a full blown hybrid. You guys who want something between a Custom and Distortion should give it a look see.

That would be sweet. I'm not a fan of gold or chrome covers and hardware, but black chrome would rule.

If I can get a Black Chrome Custom in the Bridge and Black Chrome Jazz neck I would definately sell my EMGS. Black Chrome on my Black Les Paul.....

Most EMGs aren't really all that hot. Active doesn't mean super high output.
