Duckbucker or Vintage rail on an HSH guitar

Hi,
I would like to know if I install a Duckbucker or Vintage rail as a middle pickup on an HSH guitar, will I have humcanceling on position #2 and #4 as they're not RW/RP. Thanks in advance..

Re: Duckbucker or Vintage rail on an HSH guitar

The Duckbucker and Vintage Rails are the same pickup with different cosmetics. They are also full humbuckers in a single coil size so there won't be any hum in any position unless you split them.

Re: Duckbucker or Vintage rail on an HSH guitar

If under position #2 the bridge HB splitted, I will have 1 bridge single coil + 1 middle humbucker, I suspect that I will have the hum from the single coil. Am I right ?
How can I split a duckbucker as it only has 2 conductor ? Thanks....

Re: Duckbucker or Vintage rail on an HSH guitar

If you have the bridge HB split, then yes, there will be some hum. I don't think you can split the Duck or the VR because of the 2 conductor cable. If you want to completely cancel the hum from that position, either wire the bridge pickup to run full on with the middle Duck/VR, or get a RW/RP true single coil for the middle position. But then you'll have hum when selecting the middle pickup only.

if you bend strings, get the vintage rails instead of the duck ... learn from my mistake

good luck

Re: Duckbucker or Vintage rail on an HSH guitar

The newer Duck's and VR's are both 4-conductor, but thats only to select between series or parallel wiring. You wouldn't really want to split either because you'ld end up with only three strings active.

Plus, they're both so low output, I would think they would be way too weak if split.

Re: Duckbucker or Vintage rail on an HSH guitar

Although, I still think it would be interesting to have a pair of the new VR's in the neck and bridge. Use a push-pull to split both in series so that you'ld have the lower three strings of the bridge with the upper three strings of the neck.

Might be cool. :)

Re: Duckbucker or Vintage rail on an HSH guitar

That does sound interesting. You could have the bite of the bridge pickup on the lower strings and the smoothness of the neck pickup on the upper strings. You could do it, Artie.

Yeah . . . but I have so many irons in the fire right now . . . :D

Someday, maybe . . .
