duesenberg p90

Re: duesenberg p90

It is a pity that the Duesenberg product description includes absolutely no meaningful information. Magnet type, coil width/depth and DC Resistance data would have provided at least a clue for comparison purposes.

I installed Gibson P-94s into a Gibson ES Artist for a friend. On that maple/ebony instrument, the neck/Rhythm pickup sounded nice for jazz/blues . The bridge/Treble unit was only suitable for Indie/shoegazer pop strumming.

If you have HB pickup cavities and want P-90 sounds, the P-Rails + Triple Shot mounting surrounds is my recommendation. In the worse case scenario, treat them as P-90s. Think of the other three coil combinations as a bonus.

That was my thought too. How does the p-rail p90 mode sounds compared to the phat cat? I always played humbuckers but am a bit sick of it but I guess p90 makes me happier than single could (at least for now).

Should I go for a p-rail on the bridge too or go for a hotter humbucker?

Phat Cats have A2 magents, which make them pretty dark in the neck slot, and weak in the bridge. Most P-90's have A5's, which gives more treble and clarity in the neck, but can make the bridge bright and thin. I put a warmer magnet or two in my bridge P-90's (A8, A4, UOA5) which gives them a warmer, fuller sound, and they balance better with the neck.

P-90's are very versatile, lots of magnets that you can mix and match to dial in the EQ you want.

Re: duesenberg p90

I've got some Gibson P-90s and some GFS Mean 90s and like the Mean 90 better. But my favorite P-90 sound of any pup is the P-90 in the P-Rails. And as was said, I've got the added bonus of a Rail pup and a series and parallel humbucker.

I've got the P-Rails in both the neck and bridge positions of my #1 guitar and can't say enough good things about that combo (both are mounted in Triple Shot mounting rings, by the way).

And the frosting on the cake with P-90s (including the P-Rails) is the extreme tone shaping potential with mag swapping...2 mags per coil (humbuckers only have 1 mag per 2 coils).

My recommendation is to go with 2 P-Rails.

Re: duesenberg p90

sounds good. do you have the set or the hot version for the bridge?

Re: duesenberg p90

I have the hot in the bridge, but I would prefer to have just the regular bridge P-Rails. The "hot" is too hot, especially with the A8 mags. The regular version with an A8 and an A5 or a UOA5 is better imo.

Re: duesenberg p90

out of a mood I decided for a P90 style hand made pickup made by David Barfuss and for the bridge I'll go for a sh5. I'll write about this combination if I have them. I hope I don't regret to decide against p-rails cause it sounds like such a good concept.

Re: duesenberg p90

I think the best is to lose your fear of routing and install a real P90.

Yes, I knew I didn't want humbuckers in the bridge and the single coil is too thin. So this might be what I need. But I'll consider p-raila in my other guitars.

I want to split the hum bucker with one of the tone pots. Anything I need to know? Will the extra pot change the sound of the humbucker (at full hum bucker mode)?
