dumb question about guitar storage

actually a bass guitar, but this area gets more traffic.

so I'm storing a bass guitar on a shelf where it's resting (in a soft case) on it's back but only touching the shelf near the rear, and the upper part of the neck is resting on a plastic box. not the best place for it, but it's out of the way for now.

Please examine this artist's rendition:



So...do you think this could result in a forward bow of the neck over time, or am I over-thinking things?

Well, over time I would think that it could. String tension would be working in concert with gravity.

Maybe slide it under a couch or something, or stand it vertical in a closet maybe.

I would go with vertical myself. Or at least loosen the string tension while in storage.

Can the Bass be turned so the neck goes behind the box as the bass rests against the wall behind it? I assume there to be a wall there. Or can the box be laid down to reduce the upward angle of the neck?

If I had to store flat for an extended period of time, I would loosen the strings and make sure it was flat period, no tension on the neck. Personally, I would stand it up if I could.

There's already an rg550 there on its side in a box lol

But yeah, I'll find a way to stand it up. Thanks to everyone.

This is all a result of me having to stuff everything i have I into my man closet. I can almost do it, but it's pretty tight.

You could always do a Wazza brown and store your gear in the dining room.

It does and it doesn't. I'm a minimalist at heart and it's forcing me to narrow down my stuff to what I'll actually use on a regular basis.
