Dummy Load Products/8/16 ohm Head With Two 8 ohm Cabinents

Re: Dummy Load Products/8/16 ohm Head With Two 8 ohm Cabinents

Did you get it in working order?

A headsup about the TM18 (I have one as well) the Impedance warning says "between 8 and 16 Ohms" so theoretically you could parallel an 8 Ohm and 16 Ohm (which would make 12 Ohms)
And it is exactly my next project ( building a 2x 12 with an 8 Ohm Phillips speaker and a 16 Ohm G12H30)

And it will be one of those items I wouldn't recommend using it by other people (like the Y-cable Crusty showed).

I only just posted the cable to him in the USA .... from where I live outside Melbourne, Australia. it will probably take between 7-14 days for it to get to him, so it will be a little while before he can tell us how it works out for him.

(because the cable has been built in the southern hemisphere, i'm hoping his sound doesn't come out of the speakers upside-down).

Good Heavens.....I guess he thought you were over-nighting it.:)

Impatient me. And pretty unconcentrated reading in this particular case.
Must be the heat...or the humidity...
Sorry about that.

Cool, I didn't know about that box but I'd rather give money to Crusty =). Thanks again Crusty, I look forward to getting it even if it does invert my sound haha! I'll actually be getting the cabinet today so I must resist the urge to hook it up and possibly blow up my amp.....although running it at 5W and not very loud the risk is probably low. JCM, I have two 8ohm cabinets, so in series it would be 4ohm which is why I can't (or really shouldn't) do it.

The cable should have greater integrity than the box with sockets ... because the cable is much more direct, it involves only 3 sockets (back of amp and the two cabs) and 3 plugs. The box with sockets would require 3 speaker cables, and there would be a total of 6 sockets and 6 plugs ... i.e. twice as many solder joints and mechanical contacts (plug to socket) between the head and the cab.

Yeah, if your amp has 8 and 16 Ohm speaker outputs, don't risk it by running your two 8 Ohm cabs in parallel for a total load of 4 Ohms (you said 'series', but it's a simpler parallel connection that would make the two 8 Ohm drivers become 4 .... that's why you need to wait for the series cable to arrive, that will add the two 8 Ohm units together to give a 16 Ohm load).

Works great and sounds great! Thanks Crusty!
