Duncan 59/Custom Hybrid in Mahogany Strat: Thoughts?

Anyone try one? I need to replace my Custom (SH-5) in my mahogany HSS strat, b/c it is too hot for my 5153 50w.

I called SD and a rep helped me go with the 59/Custom Hybrid.

Any experiences with this pup in a mahogany strat? It will be paired with a Pearly Gates Neck.

Also, should I keep it with a 3 way pup selector or go with 5 way. I find the Pearly Gates N a bit bassy in this guitar and positions 2 and 4 are not to stratty sounding; in fact, they're kind of weak.

Thanks!

One of Duncan's best bridge pickups and neck pickups. Great choice.

I've had one of Bach to Rock's very first C/59's in an alder/rosewood strat for years.

I have one in my mahogany-bodied Fret-King Esprit and it sounds fantastic.

You say "C/59" but they sell it as a 59/C; is there a difference?

the production pup is the custom slug coil and the 59 screw coil. Some guys make their own out of the two pickups so therefore they will have 2 different hybrids when they are done. One with each slug and screw coil from the original pickups. In my experience with hybrids, whichever coil is the screw coil will impart more of its sound to the hybrid. With both resulting pickups out of a custom job hybrid, you would technically have 2 pickups with slightly different sound

This is specially true with neck position hybrids.

In bridge position hybrids the difference is less noticeable.

So I'm assuming the guitar is HSH, not HSS? And is it a stock Fender pickup in the middle position?

The reason I ask is that it's quite possible that if your 2 and 4 positions are weak, the middle pickup and the humbuckers are out of phase. If it's a stock Fender middle pickup in that middle position then the SD pickups need to have GREEN to hot, and BLACK and bare to ground - which is the opposite of how they're normally wired.
