Duncan 59 SH-1 comparison from mid 70 to late 80s
Did a quick comparison of my SH-1 59 collection.
Sound wise I can’t believe how they evolved.
From pretty vibrant to super Scooped in 5 years.
First generation
The 70s Ivory coloured bobbins with “Seymorizer sticker got this setup.
No logo base plate
Oval 59 and Seymourizer sticker
Ring around the square hole on the bobbin
Real rough cast magnet
Yellow thread in the clothed wire.
59N 7.6 4K Screw bobbin 3.6K Slug bobbin.
Not as bassy as late version and pretty jangly.
59B
4,2k/4,2K bobbins.
Sounds like a APH-2 Slash with A5
Not as scooped like modern ones.
Pretty good drive.
Second generation
59B
The 70s Ivory coloured bobbins.
No logo base plate
Oval 59 sticker
Ring around the square hole on the bobbin
Real rough cast magnet
Yellow thread in the clothed wire.
Amazing drive and not scooped.
Third generation (Best year?)
The 80-83 era cream coloured bobbins with square sticker got this setup.
No logo base plate
Square 59 sticker
Ring around the square hole on the bobbin
Real rough cast magnet and one polished side on the magnet.
Yellow thread in the clothed wire.
This is the best era of 59B.
4,3/4,35K bobbins resulting in a whopping 8,65K
Pure rock pickup.
Does it all!
Fourth generation that is closer to the modern standard of 59
The 83-87 era cream coloured bobbins with square sticker got this setup.
Big logo base plate
Square 59 sticker
Ring around the square hole on the bobbin
Some got semi polished magnet
Yellow thread in the clothed wire.
This is when those mega scooped sounding 59B appear.
4,15/4,15K bobbins resulting in a 8,3K pickup
Scooped, super dry and a bit muffled.
Could be the magnets.
Need to try some older in this one.
59N
