Duncan 59 vs Dimarzio 36th Anniversary PAF

Re: Duncan 59 vs Dimarzio 36th Anniversary PAF

It's been a few years since I had some 36ths, but from my memory I'd say 59s are brighter. Or maybe I should say "have more highs" instead. I think they're more scooped than 36ths.

The Dimarzio's are nice and warm with a rich midrange. The 59 has strong treble, more clarity, less midrange, and punchy bass.

In the neck, the '59 is scooped, bright, and attacky. The 36th Anni is more mid-forward, throatier and smoother. It's slightly lower output too, IME.

Honestly, I'm not a fan of either, but if I had to choose, I prefer the 36th in the neck, personally. But I've never tried the bridge version of the DiMarzio. I do like the '59 Bridge if you're going for that old-school vibe, though.

I used to have a guitar with a '59 Trembucker in the bridge and a PAF 36th Anniversary in the neck. It was a nice combo.

i loved the 59 set i had in an epi lp. sometimes the neck 59 can be a little boomy on the bottom but an a4 magnet fixes that right up

The Duncan 59,It definitely has the brightness/edge/cut I hear on Van Halen 1 no dought

I would pair a stock 59n with any hot bridge pickup in a Floyded bolt on neck superstrat.

I like both pickups a lot. The 59 seems to work almost anywhere, provided you like it's tone footprint. The 36th is also great, but I find it a little pickier as to where it's installed.

IMO, I much prefer the 59

DiMarzio makes quality pickups that last forever, but they sound compressed and fake to me.

A 59 with more treble would be the Pearly Gates, at least in some guitars.

I personally find the '59B pairs better in the neck with hot bridge humbuckers. I have a Distortion/'59N set in my RG570, and I find that '59N is REALLY wimpy, weak, and chirpy compared to the Distortion.

Each to his own. :)

I like that difference. It saves me from having to mess with a volume knob.

i dont hear that as being true. to my ears the 59 has more highs, the pg has a lot of upper mids but not as clean/open/strong a high end

Re: Duncan 59 vs Dimarzio 36th Anniversary PAF

I love the 36th neck.

The bridge hasn't grabbed me fully, though it isnt bad by any means.

I never tried a 59 bridge and dont care for the 59 for the same reasons others have stated
