Duncan Antiquities Comments

Okay after deliberating for awhile I decided to go ahead and order the original Texas Hot Antiquities. I just got finished trying the Antiquity Surfer II and I kinda dislike the thin treble they have. I've read and heard that the original versions are thicker.

Not sure if I will like the Alnico 2 magnet. I've used them before several years ago but for awhile now I've been sticking with Alnico 5.

If anybody is using these pickups in your Strat please post your comments and observations about them.

I have the TH Antiquitys in a G&L Legacy. Now the old Legacys came with Duncan SSL-2s, and since about 1995 they started using 'their own version of a flat magnet, vintage alnico strat pickup, the CLF-100. (The Legacy has a 12" radius fingerboard, so the flat magnet makes sense.) I like both of these pickups very much. They are very versatile "stratty" pickups--bright and "poppy".

The TH is a darker, mellower toned pickup with staggered magnets. It is also higher output. I have the full set with the RW/RP middle and the Custom Hot bridge. The mids are thick and rich and complex, like a great red wine that sits on your tongue and reveals flavor after flavor.

I have ten Legacys, and I actually bought two extra sets of TH Ants to install. Haven't decided which guitars will get them yet, but one thing is clear to me--this is a wonderful alternative to the stock pickups. I can't and won't say "better" because of my love for the stock Legacy pickups--but they are a great alternative if you want a thicker tone.

I have tried several single coils, and finally tried a pair of Texas Hot Antiquities after hearing them in a friend's guitar. I'm still in that "getting to know you" period, but so far, really impressed with them. I've tried stacked, rail, and overwound single coils, and the TH Antiquities have a dynamic closest to what I'm after. There's a nice complex blend of snap and roundness.

Welcome to the forum.

On the index page to any forum room, between the menu headings and the first thread title, you will find a New Thread button. In the default cloud scheme, it is a delightful shade of purplish-indigo.

Clicking on the thread starter button takes you to a page where you can fill in your title and text copy plus insertions and attachments.

Hope this helps.

Re: Duncan Antiquities Comments

Getting back to the OP, I have a Surfer/Surfer/Twangbanger set in my Fender AVRI '62 Stratocaster. These sound different to the stock '57/62 set. Not necessarily "better", just different. The Fender set is more "wiry". The SD set is more touch sensitive.

One thing missing from the OP. Which exact model of Stratocaster are you modifying?
