Duncan Antiquity Aged Nickel Covers WANTED!

Does anyone have the nickel covers that come on Duncan Antiquities?
I can't use Antiquities, since I need 4 cond. pickups, but I want to buy the covers. Anyone?

Re: Duncan Antiquity Aged Nickel Covers WANTED!

It is cheaper to buy new nickle covers and age them yourself. There is a technique using Radio Shack printed circuit board etching solution. You use two concentric bowls, the inner one having holes. Wear goggles.

Re: Duncan Antiquity Aged Nickel Covers WANTED!

So, can I just find that PCB etching solution, put on rubber gloves, and smear it on the covers, then wipe it off?

Re: Duncan Antiquity Aged Nickel Covers WANTED!

Joneser, don't bother. Well, maybe I shouldn't say that, but results vary all over the place with etchant solution on pup covers. I've had many more that I tossed than I kept. Works fairly well for other nickel plated parts tho. You have to watch it carefully...takes seconds. And again, yields erratic (but better) results. The problem with covers is that they're all of different quality, and most of them suck. The polepiece holes (edges) will corrode faster than the rest of the pup, if you're dunking them. The plating is thinnest there, apparently. You can buy aged covers from RS Guitarworks, I forget what they cost, but I don't think they're too pricey. I'm pretty sure that Ant covers are nickel-silver, like the old ones were. I know Seths are.
If you do try aging some, make sure they are clean. Wear gloves and wipe them down with lighter fluid (naptha), to get rid of any oils, fingerprints, etc.

Re: Duncan Antiquity Aged Nickel Covers WANTED!

I should buy a bunch of Duncan nickel covers, and see if I know someone who lives down by the beach. I'll just ask him if I can leave the covers sitting on a shelf in his garage for a year. All the guitars I see that come from beach cities always have perfectly aged hardware and patina on the finish. That USED to be an undesireable effect, but I think it makes Gibsons and Fenders look more vintage.

Re: Duncan Antiquity Aged Nickel Covers WANTED!

Go work out. Wrap the covers in your sweaty t-shirt and throw it in a plastic bag for a month or two. Does it work? Dunno...sounds good tho :burnout:
Kinda...

Re: Duncan Antiquity Aged Nickel Covers WANTED!

I'd love to discover the perfect way to do this. Maybe I'll find an old fishtank, fill the bottom with ocean water, and put nickel parts on a shelf inside, then put a lid on it for a few months.

Shove 'em up one of those Hollywood prostitutes for a couple of minutes. I'm sure it'd have the same effect.....lol
