All my "skills" came from a lot of reading on the 'Net and a brief stint as a drafter in the early '90s. Did some electrical drawing for the EEs at the place I worked then. Took a basic electronics course as part of my drafting training.
Donahue1, I didn't make a schematic, I just made the layout drawing. I followed the schematic that was available online from the blueguitar.org website. The differences between the two types of drawings is that the schematic is the electrical diagram of the circuit, the layout is how the components that make that circuit are physically located and connected.
I don't have the knowledge to design a circuit, but I can follow a schematic and determine a layout
I might be able to go the other way, following a layout to draw a schematic. I have a project coming up where I'll need to do that.
