Bridge pickup and neck pickup were both wound by MJ. These pickups are based on talks I had with MJ about what I needed/wanted. I am very proud of them. She did an amazing job. I hope you enjoy as well. Thank you.

(This recording was done with an iphone5s. I apologize for the non studio quality of the recording)

Re: Duncan Custom Shop pickups Rock Lead Demo

I wanted a Trembucker spaced JB that could stand up to her original vintage ones. Original JB's were not Fender spaced. And also, a lot of the materials they used back then are no longer made. But, she promised me it would stand next to the original JB's and sound just as good if not better. She said the original JB's being better was a myth and that she could make it now better than it was then. What did she do? I have no idea.

The neck single I had serious ideas for. She also threw in her knowledge and expertise. I told her the sound I needed but I gave her free reign to do whatever she wanted to achieve that sound. According to MJ this is nothing Seymour Duncan offers or has ever offered or for that fact has ever made. So, I don't want to go into the details of that but I'm sure she would make you one if you called the CS.

I want to thank MJ and Seymour for making these pickups a reality.

I'm not sure why you wouldn't want to go into detail about this pickup, but can you at least tell us what sound you told her you had wanted?

I'm sure he described his sound. I dont blame him if he doesn't want to go into detail.

Re: Duncan Custom Shop pickups Rock Lead Demo

I like to use 500k pot with humbucker in the bridge. Opens it up more. But I hate the sound of 500k pot with a neck single. And I dislike high output neck "rails" type pickups. I didn't want to use any wiring tricks with caps or whatnot...where the neck pickup "sees" 250k. That never sounds right.

So the idea was to have the single coil be lower output but be able to keep up with the bridge humbucker but also be able to (as close as possible) sound like a strat neck pickup running off a 250k pot when the pot is actually 500k. And be quiet. And be able to take overdrive.

I asked MJ, "Can this even be done?" She said, "Anything can be done. We've never done this before. But I can do it."

There ya go.

It's interesting to know that you can make a request like that and get a "yes we can", and not told you're asking for the impossible. Thanks for sharing.

Nice tone, though the backing track is stepping on your leads a bit.

Re: Duncan Custom Shop pickups Rock Lead Demo

Just hush, and do what MJ says. It will all be good.

I dig the neck tone.

Re: Duncan Custom Shop pickups Rock Lead Demo

Thanks guys. As I said, it's basically a single coil stack, medium/low powered, meant to mimic the sound of a strat neck pickup running at 250k. But the pot is 500k. I see a lot of people asking questions about such things on this forum and this pickup may be their solution if they have a H/S configuration and like to run 500k pots
