Duncan Custom with alnico 4?

Have anyone tried an alnico 4 in a SH-5 (or SH-11, SH-14 for that matter)?

I'm thinking that might work out great but I haven't seen alnico 4 being used in such a high wind before.

Yep, it sounds pretty good. similar to a Custom 8, but more vintagey feeling, and lower output. But it also has a bit less innate character. Spongy bass that tracks tightly on the note attack but has a bit of bloom after that. Smooth, sweet highs. Nicely balanced mids, but I found them to be a bit bland in terms of character.

It might just be a matter of putting it in a guitar that has a complex midrange in the natural acoustic tone.

worth trying though, for sure. It's like a better balanced, less obnoxious version of the Custom 5.

this is the only clip of it I ever made:

Tried it in Basswood. Didn't like it. Kinda muddy. I much preferred an UOA5 in that guitar.

+1+1
A4 sounds just like they said in my PAF-ish pick ups. Not bad, just kinda "A4-SchmA4". If I can borrow a little yiddish.
