Im trying to find what model #- or type of pick ups my FENDER CHAMBERED TELECASTER SQUIRE MASTER SERIES is loaed with.
I know there Ducan design, the Bridge reads about 16.2 ohms and the neck reads about 7.1 ohms.
The guitar isnt that good to say the least, but I simply love the tone of the pick ups and am wanting get another set and load them in a project guitar.

Help!!!!!!

Re: Duncan Design pick ups

it's either HB102 (JB) or HB103 (Distortion)

duncan desgined pickups are amazing.. i compared a HB102 with a real JB, i swear they sound 97% the same.. it's just the HB102 a bit more noisy, and sounded a bit muffled (perhaps because of the cover)..

Re: Duncan Design pick ups

According to specs Ive found, the only pick up I see that comes close to my readings is an sh-3,or maybe a sh-4 at the bridge.
I dont know if there Alnico V or Alnico II,

You really need to try some American-made Duncans. I used to think Duncan Designed PU's were good, but after hearing the clarity, depth, & definition in a SD's, I realized how muddy & crappy-sounding DD's are; just as bad as the rest of the Asian PU's.

Re: Duncan Design pick ups

On a starter guitar or anything of the sort you can't beat DD's IMO

+1. I compared both side by side with guitars of almost the exact same specs (scale length, maple + rosewood necks, alder bodies, floating trems).

But in a totally different build of guitar (maple neck thru, ebony fretbard), it sounds different, as it should because of the guitar.

Re: Duncan Design pick ups

I disagree completely with the whole DD are great. Granted, I've only heard a few sets but one was okay and the others were horrible. From what I've read here over the years, there are some killer DDs and some horrible DDs. Usually because of QC I've read. Even the set that sounded good didn't sound as good as real Duncans.

Re: Duncan Design pick ups

DDs are overwound versions of the real Duncans. For example, the HB-101neck is a MIK '59 bridge, the HB-102b is an overwound JB, the HB-103b is an overwound Distortion. They will always sound duller and harsher than the real thing, that had been done on purpose.

Interestingly enough, Ibanez uses in their SZ series a set of the HB-101n and the HB-103b, which has one row of allen screws instead of the slugs, and those pickups match the guitar perfectly. In fact, I remember several members of the forum that swapped them for the real Duncans and then swapped back to the DDs.

Re: Duncan Design pick ups

The DDs in this late '90s Hamer Import are real tasty sounding.

The ones that came in a Dean V left a lot to be desired. Gotta search for good ones as with most man made machines.

You dont happen to know what the ohm readings are on the 101-102-103 do you?

Re: Duncan Design pick ups

As I mentioned earlier before the thread was hijacked, the ohm readings on my Telecaster master series are 16.2@bridge and 7.2@neck.

Re: Duncan Design pick ups

i had a few DD's on an import jackson a while back and at high volumes they were really harsh.once i put in some real duncans the tone was a lot better.

Re: Duncan Design pick ups

Just as a technical note, having a higher DC resistance doesn't necessarily equate to being overwound. They could be underwound and use a smaller gauge wire.

That is true. But I'm sure that they use the same wire as their prototypes (except maybe the HotRails-Scorchers). That's why they sound muddier in comparison.

Does the wax that Asian HB's are smothered in effect the tone & contribute to muddiness? I just don't see anywhere near that much wax in American-made PU's. Does the type (quality) of wax make a difference?

Re: Duncan Design pick ups

well, I don't really know it from my own experience (because I haven't played MIK humbuckers for 10 years), but I've read that a guy removed all the excess wax from the inside of his covered Epiphone '57 humbucker, and it started sounding way better.
