Hey found that the Jackson DK2 had "duncan designed" pickups in it. What kind are they and are they any good?? Compared to original SD Pups???:scratchch

Re: Duncan Designed Pups

It's probably the HB103 set, which is Distortion bridge and *maybe* a 59 neck. I bought a couple of them off E-Bay, I like them. If it's the HB102 set, that's the JB/Jazz set. Also pretty decent.

Re: Duncan Designed Pups

the hb101 is the 59 set
hb102 is the jb/jazz
hb103 is the distortion set

duncan designed pups are pretty good, better than most pups that come stock on a guitar.

Re: Duncan Designed Pups

DK2s have one humbucker and two single coils.
I'm not sure what the bridge humbucker will be, but I can tell you the Duncan Designed single coils are not bad at all. I had a DK2 with EMG 81 bridge and the two DD singles and if I hadn't sold it I'd have left the pups as they were. The two single coils sounded really nice.

Asian single coils are much better than their HB's, less for them to screw up. But regardless, you're not going to get the same quality of materials, workmanship, or consistency as you will with an American or European-made PU. Which means you won't get the clarity, depth, and articulation. I think with HB's you're much better off getting used American or European PU online, which usually go for around half price. Do not confuse "Duncan Designed" with real Seymour Duncan HB's, they have very little in common. With Asian SC's, you may be able to live with them for a while, maybe indefinitely.

Re: Duncan Designed Pups

Most Duncan Designed pickups have their model names on the underside.

On the SC-101-M Stratocaster pickup, the brand and model names are embossed into the bobbin baseplate. On Tele pickups, humbuckers and Hot Rails, the model number appears on a white self-adhesive label.

Re: Duncan Designed Pups

Funk, I think you got it. The name SC-101 sounds very familiar in terms of Jackson guitars, I think that's exactly what's in the older DK2s.

I would go along with the Blue man here too. Stop asking questions about this guitar, go buy it. If you find it lacks that little magic, buy a cheap, used, JB, and you'll have a really, really cool guitar. :1:

If, at a later date you want more bite for solos in the neck position, get a Hot Rails or Lil 59.

+1. PU swaps work wonders if the stock ones have let you down. When you run across a deal on a guitar you like, you should be able to get it sounding good with the right PU/mag combination.

Hey, I just remembered, I've got a cheap, used JB lying around here that I haven't put on ebay yet!

Hey thanks for all your help with this guitar, I have to meet the guy tommorrow and he is asking 400.00 for the axe, but I think he will go as low as 300.00 for it. Also he was thinking that it was a 2007 model and didnt realize anything about the Pups, nor the date of the guitar, it also comes with the original hard shell case. Again thanks and if I need anything I know where to come for help. If he will go with the 300 I'll get it. Then I'll have added to my collection. It will be my first Jackson guitar.

Again Thanks:friday:

Not exactly, Jeremy. The HB103N measures 8.13K, (looks like a '59 bridge for the neck) PAF territory; the SD Distortion Neck measures 'bout 12.5K...

HTH,

You're off to a good start. Remember, in spite of what any wives & girlfriends may say to the contrary, you can never have too many guitars.

I own the same guitar,it mounts a HB-102b in the bridge and two sc-101 single coils in the middle/neck.
The hb sounds too harsh to me so i swapped it with a PATB-3,while the two single coils are pretty good sounding.
