Duncan Dist vs Super dist?

Re: Duncan Dist vs Super dist?

I've only done the ceramic JB.

It was pretty cool though. Very clear, nice tight bottom end(:naughty: ), lots of output, decent cleans even. Can the Super D do all that?

Re: Duncan Dist vs Super dist?

I've not tried the Super Distortion, but the Duncan Distortion is the best metal riffing pickup ever. I always recommend that pickup for those looking for an aggresive metal tone. The cleans are quite surprising as well (it's no Strat single coil, but you get the point).

Re: Duncan Dist vs Super dist?

I guess I'm the opposite of the guy above. I've not tried the Duncan Distortion, but the Super Distortion is the best metal riffing pickup ever.

Again, it's a great rhythm pickup but really excels as a lead pickup. It has some slight compressesion and adds some really awesome harmonics to high gain playing. It does a decent clean and sounds good split.

Some days my JB Strat is my favorite, other days it's my Super Distortion. It all depends on my mood I guess.

Re: Duncan Dist vs Super dist?

listen to old iron maiden or priest then put on old dokken or randy rhoads on "dairy of a mad man" and you will hear the difference
I am almost possitive RR's used only the duncan distortion on that whole album :)

Re: Duncan Dist vs Super dist?

These two pickups are equally as hot and equally aggressive but EQ'd completely different. THe Super Distortion has a much warmer bigger bottom end and the treble isn't quite as present as the Distortion.

The Distortion has more cut and is a little more scooped sounding cause it has more treble and upper end in general but it's pretty open sounding as well. It doesn't have the bottom end that the SUper Distortion has though. The Super Distortion is just a fat meaty chunky pickup. WHile the Duncan Distortion seems better for faster thrash type playing.
