Duncan Distortion Neck Pickup

Hi there,

Thinking of getting one of these to replace my jazz neck pickup in my Les Paul. Can anyone who has one give me a few opinions on what they think of this pickup? I play mostly metal along the lines of Metallica, Slayer etc and use my neck pickup mainly for leads and clean parts.

How good is this pickup at clean sounds? The jazz is pretty amazing although when it comes to high gain I feel its missing something. Looking for a really smooth, creamy sound to my leads with lots of sustain.

Any other suggestions would be welcome!
Thanks!!

Re: Duncan Distortion Neck Pickup

I have never used the Jazz before, but I am very attached to my DDn in my Les Paul. It's very good at clean sounds, though maybe less so than the Jazz, but that sort of makes sense doesn't it? It's got a nice full response, not boomy or dark at all. It's present, somewhat bright and snappy. For leads it cuts great, articulate, and to my ears is smooth and creamy, especially with the tone knob rolled off.

I am really pleased with this pickup, playing all types of metal and hard rock, and even some blues and jazz/fusion stuff. I really can't recommend it enough.

I really liked the Duncan Distortion in the neck. It is really, super creamy. It's kind of a do-it-all pickup. It does really well under light to heavy gain. I'd say go for it.

Yeah. I hear the DD is a great neck pickup. Sounds a lot like an overwound PAF and I love PAFs in the neck position.
