Duncan Distortion Neck vs DiMarzio D Activator Neck

These pickups are for shred. I went ceramic cause i want the super cutting highs and i didnt want the boomy, video-gamey, warm sound from a pup like the 59, jazz, sentient, or full shred because i can always tame the highs if i need to or use the middle or bridge position. I want to know which is more cutting, trebly, bright, sharp or piercing even. The neck is a very warm position as it is and i want to combat that as much as i can. They are going in a jackson soloist fr with most likely either a warpig or a crunch lab. Rosewood, maple, nato (for all you tonewood n@z!s lol)

I would say that the D-Activator neck is far more cutting than the Distortion neck. Though the Distortion neck is no slouch.

DiMarzio Super 2 neck. It was designed in the 70s for the neck with Superdistortion in the bridge. It's very cutting, more so than the the super distortion which is more bass and mids. The super 2 is upper mids and treble. I ended up swapping out the ceramic for ALNICO 2 inmine and it's still a bright cutting pickup.

Yeah I considered the super 2 but it has less treble which made me want to go d activator

Re: Duncan Distortion Neck vs DiMarzio D Activator Neck

The Super 2 came off with a little too much fizz for what I wanted from it.

The D Activator is very precise and articulate, almost to the point of being a little crisp and brittle. Maybe better with a tube amp than a SS, depending on the goals.

I think it's worth opening up the search to more pickups, without the restriction of what magnet it has.

Re: Duncan Distortion Neck vs DiMarzio D Activator Neck

The super 2, judging from the era it was made and the description sounds like a paf type thing, but on super mega treble steroids

Re: Duncan Distortion Neck vs DiMarzio D Activator Neck

d activator neck can be that way but it is also rounded and organic to me. The D Activator X neck though, yeah that is the one.

Evolution Neck anyone? Probably my favorite neck pickup right now for high gain really!

Air Norton is a close second for me

Now I also own a Japanese Schecter and this thing has a Schecter "Super Rock" neck humbucker and it kicks butt for high gain too

Not bright enough for my taste. Both very overrated imo. But to each his own I suppose

Yep,more makes a strat bridge pickup sound muddy. Very shrill ice pick bright.
Even with standard sized A2 magnets still sound very bright. Why guitars need a tone knob! ;-)
