Duncan Distortion with 300/250k pots?

So, I've ben trying to decide on a new pickup for my LPC for a little while. I've probably annoyed a bunch of you by asking a million questions, but here's one more. I hear the DD is a little kinder with 300/250k pots, but doesn't lose it's grind and aggression. Now, I hear it loses some of it's brittle/bright high end, but does it soften the attack at all? I really like the overall tone, but think it's kinda stiff sometimes and has NO give. If I could get a little more 'squish' or crunch like the JB and have that aggressive Distortion grind/tone, it would be awesome.

Never tried it. There's a bunch of dudes who run JB's with 250 pots to shave the "icepick", so it might work.

I'd say all it loses is the harshness. I'm a huge fan of scorching treble loaded ceramics with 300k pots.

The DD, being a JB w ceramic magnet as rumor has it, has the windings to give tight attack under most circumstances. I find that the metallic chunk lots of people dig is related to the bass/mid ratio. If you dial bass on 5 mids 1 or bass 9 mids 5 So long as the bass is notched 3 or 4 higher, that oomph will kick in. But also , on a JSX ( i like yr gear selection btw), its more better mega to dial to master to around 6 or 7.5, and use the preamp vol as a decibel control- you get great power tube sag and punch, plus you can use your bad monkey to drive the signal- not the gain button , but just goose the volume output to render your power tubes into submission. With the muscle that the DD brings to the table up front, youll get alot of crunch, verve and tone before even dialing in much " distortion" or "gain" (i forget what button jsx has). Anyways, dial the distortion in last, im sure it will work out into deliciously violent sound of unforgiving malice, yet still very "guitar-y"

Yeah, it would be interesting with the JSX. :) When I had my Splawn QuickRod and my Mesa MKIII, the DD was VERY unforgiving with those tight amps. I MUCH preferred the JB with the MKIII and QR. Then again, I never thought of tying 300/250k pots. Maybe a "normal" Marshall or the JSX will have just enough 'give'.

I do use the BM mainly as a boost, too. Gain up only on 9 o'clock or so and the volume up around 3 o'clock. Its a great boost for the $20 I paid for it, new. :)
