What are your thoughts on the SH-6? I have seen alot of posts on here and heard clips, and most of which are negative...:eek13:

Re: Duncan Distortion

I'm surprised that you've seen so many negatives. Most of what I've seen were positive. I love the Distortion. Especially the neck version. It has a meaty, ballsy output. Great for blues. Its one of my favorite pups to split also.

I even made a hybrid out of one with a coil from a 59. Great pup.

I put the Mayhem pair in my buddies Schecter Omen 6. Its the main guitar I play when I go over to his place. Especially killer through a tube amp.

Re: Duncan Distortion

+1 for the neck Distortion. if you solo in the neck, it retains single note definition very well under lots of gain/ drive.

i have a PATB Distortion in the bridge of my Ibanez S1620- superb for aggression + it does well for fusion stuff too, needs a little EQing though.

Re: Duncan Distortion

I love it! I put one in my #1 Les Paul 18 years ago and it's never comming out! Didn't care for it in my strat though......it was too much.

Never tried the neck, will soon probably.

Re: Duncan Distortion

Another +1 on the Distortion neck. Great for higain neck work and reacts nicely to touch and the volume knob.

Re: Duncan Distortion

The DD's are great pickups. BTW, I am not responding to this thread as if it were one of the few Duncans I have ever had in my guitar. Whenever someone asks about a pickup, it seems to turn into a fan appreciation thread for that pickup and only the people who seem to respond are the ones who are currently using that pickup. Being as independent as possible, if you dont mind higher output pickups, the DD can do a number of things well.

Re: Duncan Distortion

The Duncan Distortions are some of the best pickups ever made, both bridge and neck versions. At one time, I had almost every guitar I owned equipped with at least one Distortion.

They are way more verstaile than the name suggests. You owe it to yourself to try one out.

Guess I was lucky enough to find what worked for me right off the bat, if it works don't fix it.......

Re: Duncan Distortion

is really a great pick up, isn't a pick up for an all around musicians, if you lke to play a lot of diferent music style. is better that think about JB one..

Re: Duncan Distortion

I tried a DD in place of a JB in a bright guitar. It had more low mids, louder harmonics and a more compressed sound. But I found it was more sterile, not as responsive and organic as the JB. But for the most part I'm not a ceramic magnet fan. The JB was alot sweeter.

Re: Duncan Distortion

DD is agressive ,punchy ,screaming and shouting PU.So if you are looking for this characters ,go for it.
Don't forget the PATB-1 and 2..they are the more improoved once of Distortion and JB (JB and Distortion are the same coils with different magnets)

Re: Duncan Distortion

it is always a punk person who says somthing is more punk than metal....DD is awesome for metal if you dont think this, you need your ears checked pronto! as soon as delonge started using the invader....it became known as the punk pickup! my all time fave pickup for punk is a p90, now thats a punk pickup....a duncan distortion is metal....its just nowdays with all these harcore screamo bands they use metal rhythms and gut the solos and vocals and add in their wussiness.

Re: Duncan Distortion

punk/ metal/ etc... the Distortion would appease high gain/ drive fans. doubt it was conceived to address a specific music genre.

Re: Duncan Distortion

Well Randy used them in his Jackson signature, and he had a good, albeit quite trebly, tone.

Re: Duncan Distortion

I got one in my Les Paul and it sounds awesome! Sharp and punchy! I won't ever pull it out. Metal is as Metal does.

Re: Duncan Distortion

George Lynch used the Duncan Distortion for most of his work in Dokken.

'Nuff said!

Re: Duncan Distortion

The DD is great for a lot of things, I even like its split tone through a little Mesa F-30.
