Duncan Hot Stack Lead vs Quarter Pounder in a Tele

Which handles gain better? Which twangs less?

I’m trying to get a less Tele sound out of my Tele without going full-on humbucker. It’s one of those triple Nocaster MIM Teles. I found myself not reaching for it very often because I rarely want something so low output and biting, being a typically hard rock player.

I’ve used the Hot Stack Lead and have one around, and I’m confident it will be a step in the right direction, I’m just not sure it will be far enough in the right direction. Will the Quarter Pounder be thicker and rock harder? Is there anything else I should look at? I’ve also been curious about the higher output noise canceling Wilde pickups.

I'm not super familiar with the QP, but I have a Hot Stack in my Tele and I think it should at least be close to what you're after. I've never been a big fan of Tele twang, and I've always thought of early Led Zep as opposed to classic country when I pick mine up. The Hot Stack does that extremely well, but you might want a bit more for heavier styles.

FWIW, the STL2 does a pretty good soapbar impression and lacks a lot of the traditional tele twang.

The Hot Stack twangs less. Both are great with gain, but in different ways.

the hot stack isnt very twangy, the qp maybe less so. the hot tele lead is another good option. the hot lead is more middy than the qp but both are meaty sounding tele lead pups that dont twang much at all. since you already have the stack, id throw it in and see what ya think
