Pickup Peeps,

I bought a Hot Stack for tele, and, since I have a 'swimming pool' route under the pickgaurd, I can go with any number of neck solutions. I would like it to be one pickup that is capable of respectable jazz tones, and can compete with the output of the Hot Stack. So far, I've been considering these:

Duncan cool rails
Duncan 59
Duncan Jazz

Anyone else have any insights? Will the 59 compete with the Hot Stack in output, or am I going to get a drop in volume when I go to the neck? Thanks.

The Hot Stack isn't as hot as the name suggests. A 59 would be OK. Also consider a plain old tele neck pickup. The Vintage Stack Tele neck would match the Hot Stack.

I'd say the 59 is the best of those 3. The Cool Rails is essentially the single coil version of the Jazz, and those are both really bright with not much mids or bass, or the opposite of what I'd want in an actual jazz pickup. You might also consider a Seth Lover, Antiquity, or Alnico II Pro.

To my ears, output-wise the best match is the A2Pro neck, if we're talking about a Fat Tele. In my experience, the 59 neck has higher output than the Hot Stack. Never liked the Jazz, so I don't want to bother

EQ-wise, they're very different beasts... to me the 59 neck sounds more PAF-isho, being more scooped than the A2Pro.

Either can do Jazz, but different flavours of it.

For reference, I'm thinking about an alder-bodied Tele with a maple neck and fretboard.
