Duncan Humbuckers with "Classic Covers".

Hello there: I have a question with regard to the classic cover version of Duncans' humbuckers. These are the ones with the nickel covers pre-installed at the factory. I just recently bought new jazz neck and JB pickups with these covers. Before I purchased them I had the opportunity to look at several of them all brand new un-opened. Has anyone else noticed that the corner area of all of them has an impression in the nickel cover? It's like you can tell by looking at them there must be some process when they are made where they are clamped or held firmly enough on the corners to slightly bend the nickel covers. I think that sucks. I love the tone of the pickups, but can't believe a reputable manufacturer like Seymour Duncan has to distort the nickle covers when installing them. Has anyone else noticed this? I am going to send SD an email on this but I thought I would see if anyone had any experience with the issue. Thanks man!

I just looked at the nickel DD and PGn I have in my Standard.

I have no idea what you are talking about.

Re: Duncan Humbuckers with "Classic Covers".

No marks on any of my covers, not can I recall seein g and over the years.... AFAIK the covers are installed by hand, so I´m kind of wondering where that kind of force could be generated in the process, as well...

Interesting to say the least...

But could you maybe post a pic of what you mean? I´m not too sure I´m catching your drift....

Re: Duncan Humbuckers with "Classic Covers".

I know exactly what you're talking about. 3 out of the last four covers I've gotten are like that (including my Brobucker). It doesn't bother me much...

Re: Duncan Humbuckers with "Classic Covers".

Not that big a deal...but a disappointment none the less. I am going to find out what the deal is from Duncan on this. It just should'nt be...

Re: Duncan Humbuckers with "Classic Covers".

Can someone PLEASE take pics so that we can see what you´re talking about? :)

Re: Duncan Humbuckers with "Classic Covers".

Just opened another 2, they both are dented also...that makes 5 of the last 6 covers I got were dented.

Zerberus, I don't have a digital camera. It's just a minor indention/impression on the top of the cover near the corner...about the size of a dime.

A DIME?? that´s not minor, that´s 1/8th of the surface area :laugh2:

Guys: This is actually the type of thing that may not photograph. You know how a shiny surface is...It's the kind of thing that when you look at the cover once you may not see it. Then you move you head an inch and now it is very apparent. This is because it is a shiny nickle surface. It's like if you picked up the pickup at the corner with your thumb and forefinger and squeezed as hard as you could you may be left with an impression in the nickle cover about the size of you thumb tip. This is what it looks like. I am going to consult with Duncan on this because it absolutely should not be. I will post their response. Thanks to all...

AAAAH... now I think I know what you mean..... To be frank, I think that may be a product of the manufacturing process, depending on how exactly the covers are made.

Or is it an actual "nick" in the corner?

Re: Duncan Humbuckers with "Classic Covers".

Not a nick at all. This "impression" is so consistant (same exact size) on two corners of every pickup that it would almost have to be either made by machine, or as you suggest, a potential flawed manufacturing process of the covers themselves. It is very suprising this would get past Duncan's quality control. I will post their reply to this. Just be careful if you buy any of these. Look at them good and weed out the ones with this flaw. Thanks

Yes but the indention is not deep so it's a minor flaw. It probably does have something to do with the tooling during manufacturing. Something they should look into fixing.

Re: Duncan Humbuckers with "Classic Covers".

Is this visible when the pickup is mounted in a guitar? Or does it possibly fall under the Engineering Maxim of "if you can´t see it, it doesn´t matter how it looks"?
