Duncan JB - '59 set new for $75

Re: Duncan JB - '59 set new for $75

Well, the pictures show what I believe are genuine Duncans....but who knows what they will send you!

Re: Duncan JB - '59 set new for $75

I recently placed an order on AliExpress for an inexpensive Chinese effects pedal; the price was 2/3 of what it was on Amazon. (Note this wasn't a 'clone' or counterfeit of another product, just an actual Chinese company's effect pedal.)

Sent payment, item showed it shipped within three days, and tracking showed it stopped, permanently, at the first stop inside China; never moved beyond that.

Ali's policy was that I had to wait the full 'customer protection period' (creative naming, there) before I could request a refund. That period ended up being 2 1/2 months, even after I'd shown them the tracking showed the package had stopped moving. Nothing could be done to contest or argue the policy; they declared it, and further communications were handled by a 'bot that simply informed me I couldn't do anything until the 'customer protection period' expired.

After the 'customer protection period' expired, they then extended the time they gave themselves to review it by another two weeks.

I eventually got a full refund, but wouldn't place another order from AliExpress if my life depended on it. I realized (belatedly) that you're dealing with an organization which is perfectly fine with dealing with counterfeits, IP theft and other highly dubious practices, and expecting them to be ethical in their operation was downright silly.

Yeah, the pics look legit, but I'd wonder what you'd actually get, if you got anything at all. Maybe a set of Seemore Doonkins (with comic sans font).

Re: Duncan JB - '59 set new for $75

Chinese companies ARE counterfeiting SD pickups, right down to the stamped logo on the baseplate AND even "trembucker" style baseplates!

I've reported these guys so many times I can't stand it: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Seymour-Du...936366&hash=item4b718a6b1e:g:Ip4AAOSwAN1bs5AF

They just relist again and again. I finally got them to put the word "replica" in the title, but that's about it. Plus, these aren't the only counterfeits out there now...

Re: Duncan JB - '59 set new for $75

Thanks for the sensible reply.

The issue is not whether to buy obvious counterfeits off Aliexpress, the issue is, when I get a used one from someone, somewhere, how can I tell it's a genuine Duncan?

As mentioned, the pics seem to show the real deal, and now you mention some even have the stamped logo.

Re: Duncan JB - '59 set new for $75

Uh-oh, this thread has me a little concerned. I bought a NIB Black Winter bridge from a well-rated seller on Reverb. It's a Shop Floor Custom, boxed appropriately, no logo and the bobbins are a smooth, polished surface rather than the satin finish typical of Black Winter pickups. It has a small sticker on the back identifying it as "30759 263555 BLK WINTER BRG", just like the box is marked.

Initially I put it in a Schecter Keith Merrow KM-6 MkII, to replace the Nazgul bridge. It sounded great! I later sold the guitar but kept the pickup. I recently put it in my second Banshee which I bought used, and had come set up with only two A500k volumes, no tone control, and a three-way selector. My wiring skills suck and the resulting installation sounded pretty horrible, using the same controls. The Banshee and the KM-6 are almost identical construction so I fully expected it to kick ass. So now I'll be taking it to my luthier Monday to change out the pots and switch and straighten it out, BUT, do you guys think this pickup is legit? :?:

Re: Duncan JB - '59 set new for $75

Without pics and a DCR reading, no one can really be sure, but fakes haven't really saturated the market in the US yet. So, the chances are good that it is real, and your wiring skills might need some work. :)

Re: Duncan JB - '59 set new for $75

I have bought "similar to" pickups from Aliexpress
The ones I got have the correct resistance and magnets as the SD Hotrod set
But no logo or counterfeit baseplate

I plan to test them and try them out
I expect good results but haven't gotten around to it yet

I have seen where they listed some double slug pickups as Duncans
I wouldn't buy them expecting real pickups

Oh that's for sure! :jester:

Mail tracking from Asia will always stop inside Asia because they are not integrated with US and other postal systems to continue tracking to your door. Sounds like yours was not sent or the local shipping center lost it, but even in a good transaction the tracking will stop inside China. I just bought a hard drive controller board from China and had this happen, but I received the part just fine several days after tracking stopped at the local China post office where it was sent.
