Duncan Jerry Donahue model - any users?

I absolutley love the Jerry Donahue model bridge tele pickup. But I don't play anything like Jerry Donahue and had never heard of him before I saw his name on a Duncan pickup.

I play the blues and borderline blues rock at times. For this the Donahue model is just super! It's like a vintage tele pickup with a little extra bite. I use it rolled down to about 70% and there it sounds like a trad vintage tele pickup. Then when I move in for a solo I turn it full on and those extra 30% pushes my amp tone to a little more saturated place where I get a sweet solo spot.

For me at least it's the best tele bridge PU there is. Vintage plus, that should be a better name for it.

Why do you use the Donahue and what style do you play?

I play my Donahue eqiped Tele almost exclusively on this album!

I don't own a Tele, but based on the sound samples and other sources, I'd have to agree. That is THE bridge pup for a Tele. Not too spikey, and just enough mids for my taste.

This is my favorite bridge pickup in a Tele. More rock, less twang (but there is still twang). If I go back to a stock Tele, it sounds weak and wimpy by comparison. I like it best with a Seth Lover neck.

If you like that pickup i'll bet you'd be blown away by the fender 62 custom. Like the Donahue it's A2, but i have had both and IMO the fender is way better. I found the donahue ldaull and lifeless, especially compared to the fender. The A2 mags do what they are meant to by keeping the top from being too thin or harsh, yet somehow they managed to keep the total tele thing without sounding dark or muddy. Like u mentioned about the donahue, when you add a lot of gain it gets saturated and just sings like no other tele pickup usually does without being overwound. The 62 custom is only wound to about 6.2k yet when you want a ghotter overdrive sound from the am it acts almost like it's a hotter pickup Then lower the volume or the drive on the amp and you're back in tele town. If u love the donahue i think you will absolutely flip over the 62 custom. Do a search at the TDPRI forum. There are some long threads with endless praise for it. In short, it does what i hoped the donahue would do and does it a lot better to put it mildly. They're only about $40 on ebay too, or at least thats what the were when i bought my 2 about 5 years ago. Maybe more now but i'm sure still relatively cheap. My fav tele bridge picku of all time.

Thank you for the info on the Fender 62 Custom. But then on the other hand *bleep* you – now I have to at least hunt one down and try it out. I guess this never ends. This was a praise thread for the Donahue pickup, which I love. And just a few comments down I'm now hearing about this OTHER pickup that's possibly EVEN BETTER. Oh crap, but hey that's the fun part of this too right. We gear heads are just never 100% happy. Thank you! :)

Yup. Me too. And this is after trying two different Antiquities. The Antiquities were great, but the JD just had that something extra. Definitely my favorite Tele pickup.

Since i discovered them i have put em in every tele i have had since. Thats another thing i love about them....they seem to work equally as well in any tele.

It is hell of a pickup... One of my favorite tele bridges. An a2 Broadcaster...
