Duncan Little 59, DiMarzio Chopper, Pro Track as neck pickups

Hi,

Has anyone had a chance to compare these pickups in a neck position of a strat? Looking for a single-sized humbucker, but don't want to extra powerful or muddy thing. In opposite, fairly clean and even sounding pickup is required. As far as I guess, these three variants will suit quite fine, but choosing pickups only according to figures is not a nice idea.

Pro track has the perception (at least to my ears) as being rather dark in the neck.. I have a chopper in the neck of my fender parts strat, but haven't finished it up yet to be able to give a fair comparison... From what I have heard (online mind you) it should make for a (albeit) hotter, but balanced neck pickup with some decent bite. Lil 59 is always a great choice, if you want a smoother paf type sound. (I have used a lil 59n in a strat before, and it was pretty darn good, -IF- you are not expecting a true paf or strat tone out of it.)

Lil 59 is always a great choice, if you want a smoother paf type sound. (I have used a lil 59n in a strat before, and it was pretty darn good, -IF- you are not expecting a true paf or strat tone out of it.)

Yes, PAF-type sound is desired, not a real-PAF

I really don't think you could go wrong with the lil 59n then.. If the chopper neck doesn't work for me, then I will prob move to a true single coil, and move the chopper to the bridge, where I know it will kill..

I have used a pro track in a client guitar I worked on, and (may have been the guitar) but just struck me as dark.. not nec. in a bad way, just not for me. (he liked it tho, But this was after installing all us made pups and electronics, coming from cheap Chinese stuff)

Not sure if this helps but I have a little 59 in my Tele...but it’s in the bridge...fwiw, it’s a fantastic pickup. I can’t imagine the neck version being bad.

The neck Little 59 is a wonderful pickup. Slightly scooped, and not hot enough to take away dynamics- it is my favorite single-coil-sized humbucker in the neck. I like it better than hotter single coils in the neck.

The other pickups are really good, but the lil' 59 is just what you are looking for, a PAF style pickup in a single coil package. I have one in the neck of my stratenstein with a Custom in the bridge.

Not sure if this helps but I have a little 59 in my Tele...but it’s in the bridge...fwiw, it’s a fantastic pickup. I can’t imagine the neck version being bad.

Me too! only mine is in a asat bluesboy.. killer tone that one

Another I would recommend is the Satch Track. I have one in the neck of my cheap old Strat and it works well with the Air Norton S I have in the bridge. It doesn’t seem too hot and has a nice rounded bluesy sound that I like in a neck pickup.

Apologies for going off topic, but, how do you like the Air Norton S in the bridge? Is it dark, bright or more neutral sounding?

I like the Air Norton S a lot. In this guitar, it feels very even sounding with a nice edge to it.

I too have a satch track neck and it’s great for gain. It is a ceramic though so cleans are meh. Maybe check out the red devil.

I can't speak to the 59 or Pro Track....

But I think you will find the Chopper a tad on the hot side. To give you an idea, it matched well in the middle and neck with an X2N.

The Cruisers are nice for cleaner sounds, The Ft1 works too but its not as SC sounding. The ST neck, chopper & Protrack are a departure from SC sound in the neck, although in the parallel mode wiring they can sound more clear.
