Duncan P-90 Pickup Mount question...

REVISED... Picture added a few posts down of this mount.

I have one of those Tele Squire Custom II's with 2 Duncan Designed P-90's. I'd like to upgrade the soapbars here, but looking on the examples were on the Duncan site they do not show a mounting bracket to accept the pickup screws.

The Duncan Designed pups on there now, have 2 screw holes on each side going through the pickguard to adjust the height. Pic below...

Do the standard Duncan P-90's come with a mounting bracket if you need it? Just a bit unclear here...

Thanks!

No bracket on any Duncan P-90 I've ever owned. What do they actually look like under the guard?

Re: Duncan P-90 Pickup Mount question...

To tell you the truth I haven't opened it up yet. I know I should, but I was trying to get some info before I do. My luck, I'll open it and say "duh", but I would still need to find a P-90 that can be mounted.

I'm hoping Evan will jump on this one...

Re: Duncan P-90 Pickup Mount question...

No one else? Can someone here at Duncan tell me if any of your replacement P-90's will have an issue mounting here? Thanks (again)!

Re: Duncan P-90 Pickup Mount question...

well since they are covered, you could just use the old covers and then not have to worry about the new guard and or mounting issues. they should fit since they are on duncan design p90s. good luck

one more thing, it looks almost like they used dog ear covers and just mounted them the same way a strat pickup is mounted.

That's what I was thinking. :burnout:

Re: Duncan P-90 Pickup Mount question...

Good call on the dogear mount possibility! I was thinking of refinishing it a different color and using cream or white covers. Dogears would make that real simple.

Duncan P-90 Pickup Mount ???

Duncan P-90 Pickup Mount ???

I've found a pic of a guy selling these on eBay. Not a dogear, but a mount attached to a soapbar P-90. These came out of the same guitar as the one I have (as seen on the first post).

Are these available for sale at Duncan? Or elsewhere? Would be nice to swap out other P-90s like a Duncan Hot P-90.

Thanks for the post. Those pickups are a Duncan Designed exclusive, meaning there's nothing in the USA-made Seymour Duncan line that has the same mounting bracket.

But you could always send in your Duncan Designed pickups and MJ could rewind them to any spec you wanted.

I hope that helps.

Take care,

Re: Duncan P-90 Pickup Mount question...

I was hoping to just get some USA Duncan's and load them to this bracket.

So does that mean if I got a hotter Duncan P-90 but not Custom shop ordered, that I cannot take that mount and make it work with that pickup?

Not sure I can afford at the moment to order 2 custom shop P-90's. That could be pricey! Any idea of pricing?

Can you claiify just a tad more... Thanks!

Re: Duncan P-90 Pickup Mount question...

The USA-made P-90s don't fit on that mounting bracket. Sorry.

MJ's price to re-wind them to a hotter spec is $65 each.

I hope that helps.

Re: Duncan P-90 Pickup Mount question...

I'm confused here. Are these true single coils like the vintage p-90's or are they stacked as seeme to be indicated by the description found the Duncan Designed Products page ...

" The P90-1 is a stacked-coil P-90 that offers series, parallel and out-of-phase switching capabilities."

Is the Duncan designed P-90-1 the same pickup used in the Fender Squire CUstom II? It kind of looks like the cable in the photo might be a 4 conductor cable as used in split coil PU's.

Thanks,

Howard

Re: Duncan P-90 Pickup Mount question...

Sorry for the confusion. The pickups in the Squire Tele Custom II are not P90-1's, which are Stacks. Rather, they're P90-2's, which are single coils.
