DUNCAN SATURDAY NIGHT SPECIAL'S THOUGHTS?

I was just curious if anybody has used these or heard how they sound? I saw them for the first time at a music store and wanted to know how the tone is on them.

There are already several threads about them.

I think one is well over 9 pages long.

IME they sound like a 59 set with less low end and more mids as well as more output. The A4 magnets make make this a more even sounding pickup with no frequencies overpowering others. Duncans first pickup with an A4 and to my ears it is a winner. I would be curious to see the sales numbers for these as guitar players are not known for straying from the tried and true.

I installed one in a clients' Les Paul and he's delighted to say the least. Said he'd been hunting that sound for 10 years.

I am liking the way they sound. Here is a promo video we made for them:

They are nice pickups, but I've been wondering how they sound split in the neck if anyone has any experience with that.

I believe that big thread on the SNS discusses that. Can't remember for certain, but a lot of aspects about the set are discussed there.

Re: DUNCAN SATURDAY NIGHT SPECIAL'S THOUGHTS?

Hi
I'm not really technically minded so excuse the question:

I was wondering whether it would be worth changing the caps/pots with these SNS pickups if I buy them. I have a LP Classic from 97, currently with stock 500T and 496R, not sure about the caps/pots but according to Google they are 350k. The guitar will be 20 years old this year, still with all original parts.

I asked Bare Knuckle about their Mules set and they recommended a change of wiring harness etc to make the most of the pickups. I imagine it would be the same in the case of any other new pickups, but just thought I'd ask :)

Any tips or advice would be gratefully received, as it's hard to find any reviews of the SNS apart from the three or four videos on YouTube.

Cheers!

I wouldn't change the harness just yet. If you change everything at once and don't like what you are hearing, then you don't know what caused the change you don't like. If you only change the pickups, then you know that anything you hear different is strictly the pickups.

Just fitted the SNS and they sound superb, I couldn't be happier. They do exactly what the publicity says...plenty of mids, a little honk and plent of power. Crystal clear. Most excellent!!!
