Duncan SSL1, california set

Re: Duncan SSL1, california set

Guess what. I just bought SSL-1B.

I A/B it with middle SSL-1 I have currently in neck position once I get it installed.

Here's facts Riley shared about them earlier:

So - I seem to have missed this thread while I was out of the office last week.

Here's some info straight from our engineering department:

The California 50's set bill of materials calls for an SSL-1 neck, RWRP middle, and SSL-1 bridge. So we do actually build three versions of the SSL-1 that go into the calibrated set.

The difference is subtle, only a few hundred turns, but the bridge pickup is in fact slightly overwound compared to the neck and middle.

I'm still catching up on this thread, but if there are any other questions still hanging let me know and I'll do my best to answer them!

Yes, the earlier post may be a bit mixed up. Although the DCR for all three pickups in the set is very nearly identical, they are wound slightly differently. That may be where the confusion arose.

Re: Duncan SSL1, california set

I was answering to Open Lane in different thread and searched this. Looks I forgot to reply!

So I put both, SSL-1 and SSL-1b in neck humbucker rout of my partscaster. I switched the places back and forth and I have to say the tonal difference with regular SSL-1 is so small it doesn't matter. I can't tell which one is the b model based on tone, any difference is at most less than the placement of the pickup in rout.

I'm going to rewire the partscaster when I have time, should check the resistance of pickups then

Re: Duncan SSL1, california set

Will the SSL 1 set work with my Strat Deluxe? I've been told it wouldn't.

Unless there is something strange about your guitar, it would be a great set in your Strat if you are looking for the most classic 50s Strat sound, ever.
