DuncanDistortion Neck in Bridge?

Hi!
In my research for the "perfect" bridge pickup for a PRS CE22 mahogany/maple top, I've come across this pickup..."He" was in a closet and I've never remembered to have one unused sleeping in a box...
Ok, tried yesterday the Duncan Distortion neck in bridge position...
All I can say is WOW...
The ceramic magnets retains a lot of low end clarity, in my opinion a VERY BIG improvement from the CustomCustom (according to my likes).
The top end is very Hi-Fi, but in a good way...since the guitar is a good one, the high strings are cutting through very well but never became ear piercing with ziggy hi freqs...the mids are eq'd a bit on the high side, very aggressive and gritty, maybe the only thing that I can't completely say to be good...but overall its a great choice to achieve a clear and ballsy sound form a moderately dark guitar.
Next test...a DiMarzio Paf Pro...
Swapped the pickups, restrunged the guitar...the Alnico5 magnets reveals himself in all his sweetness...a spongier low end, "tubular" mids and clear highs, slightly rolled off compared to the DD trebles...
A softer pickup on a general impression, good output and a "woody" feeling on the mids that is very inspiring while playing...more of a rock pickup, compared to the heavier attitude of the DD...but equally beautiful and very well balanced in all the frequencies...
Still waiting for the Ceramic Custom to arrive...

It's a stupid move to try it in bridge position?
You'll never know unless you try, so no, it's not a stupid move.
Could be a good match in terms of output with a 59 in the neck?
Anything is possible. The Seymourizer is 12K I believe.
What can I expect from a neck pickup in the bridge position?
You'll have to try it to find out.
Irritating,Enhanced trebles? :banghead:
The cards say maybe.

Either get a magic 8 ball like I'm using or throw the sucker in there and tell us how it sounds. The only issue I can see is that you are using a PRS:banghead:

Re: DuncanDistortion Neck in Bridge?

I liked it in the bridge. It has been about 10 years so I am not sure what I liked baout it though.

Re: DuncanDistortion Neck in Bridge?

the DD neck model in the bridge sounds a lot like HOT PAF
crunchy, articulate, bright and basically pretty clean overall.
you may really dig it
all neck models can be used in either position like one guy i know prefers the 59n in the bridge instead of the usual 59b
there is no law that says dont do it.
some neck models are real sweet in the bridge spot:beerchug:

Re: DuncanDistortion Neck in Bridge?

The DDn used to be called the Seymourizer which is why the sticker on the bottom is SEYx.

I believe it started out as a bridge pickup but I may be wrong. It definately makes for a cool bridge pickup and I love it in the neck of mahogany guitars.

Re: DuncanDistortion Neck in Bridge?

Has anyone tried or heard of an A5 magnet in a DD neck / Seymourizer II, in the bridge position? To me, it seems like that would be the closest thing to the "JB Lite" that some people want.

Re: DuncanDistortion Neck in Bridge?

Do you still have your Custom Custom?
If so then replace the A2 with a ceramic magnet and voila, Custom :D

Re: DuncanDistortion Neck in Bridge?

This seems like an awesome idea based on the specs, but I've never tried it.
