Tone is subjective. Honestly, what you say is just as valid as what I say. It's just how our ears hear tone. But the HFS and the Custom are both ceramic magnet, high-output, bridge humbuckers designed to take the basic PAF tone and pump it up.
I replaced my HFS with a Custom Custom to add a little softness on the attack. And I'm very happy with it. You can hear Kat Dyson playing it on the UGD CD. (And you can see that pickup on the Seymour Duncan main page).
