Duncans - logo'ed versus non-logo'ed

Just curious-- why is it that some new Duncans come w/ the Seymour Duncan logo on the top, and some don't?

It doesn't seem to be based on whether or not they're trem-spaced, because I've seen both regular and trembucker versions new both with logos and without.

I've seen some new regular spaced Duncan 59's that have the logos on them though, and they're supposed to be replicas of vintage pickups.

You can get them with the logo on from the Custom Shop.

Personally I prefer the logo on all my pickups if possible.

I'm not sure where they draw the line, but yeah, generally the "vintage" pups like 59s and A2Ps don't have logos. Seths and Ants are covered so it doesn't matter. The more "modern" sounding pups have the logos.

I personally don't like having the logos, but the logos are easlily and safely removed with some toothpaste, a rag and a little elbow grease. Bonus: your pickups are now cavity-free and minty-fresh!

Re: Duncans - logo'ed versus non-logo'ed

They make both types depending on what look you want for your guitar. If you want the tone but think the logo will look tacky in your vintage Les Paul or classy PRS, go logo free.

If you want the hot rod look, or to share with others that you are a modder, maybe even just as a conversation starter, go with the logo.

Re: Duncans - logo'ed versus non-logo'ed

Problem is, the good deals on 59's that I've seen on ebay have all been logo-less, and for this guitar, I definitely want the SD logo on it.

Re: Duncans - logo'ed versus non-logo'ed

personaly, i dont like the "SD" logo on my pups. For me, i like the vintage look to my pups. I have a custom custom (bridge), and A2Pros (neck and bridge) and all of them have no logo

Re: Duncans - logo'ed versus non-logo'ed

Yeah, I guess paying $15-18 more for one w/ a logo would be a bit silly, wouldn't it?

Re: Duncans - logo'ed versus non-logo'ed

i like mine with logos ... a coupla mine that came as OEM do not have em and i wish they did

It's usually just $10 for a floor custom pickup. And if you want a '59 with a logo and also want 4-conductor wiring, cloth tape, short legs, etc., then paying $83 for it instead of $73 isn't bad.

I like mine with logos.. I have seen a 59B Zebra with the logo. I guess they do make both versions as immortal six put it.

Re: Duncans - logo'ed versus non-logo'ed

I definitely like having the logo there. I'm happy to have SD pickups in my guitars and there's no reason to hide that. If it somehow horribly clashed with the look of the guitar I could see not wanting it, but I could think of very few instances where that would happen.

For this guitar, I don't mind 2-conductor, regular tape, long legs, etc. I'll just have to keep my eyes peeled for a black 59B with a logo on it.

Re: Duncans - logo'ed versus non-logo'ed

The have more sparkle without the logo.

I suspect it may be the additional mass the logo puts on the pickup.

;)

I've heard that if you want to imitate the tonal qualities of a logo'd Duncan, you can use a sparkle gel pen. But of course, you need to get every letter just right or else it sucks the tone right out.

Re: Duncans - logo'ed versus non-logo'ed

I thought that - with regard to '59s and Alnico II Pros that (by default) don't have logos.....

.... but Pearly Gates do have logos! :yell:

Yeah, but they are replicas of certain pickups in a certain guitar.
