Dunlop Primetone picks?

I've really been working on my pick-hand lately ... have decided I have a very heavy pickhand! perhaps I flex my picks way too much and its keeping me from building more speed.... I've worked pick angles, wrist angles.... and have decided I need heavier thicker picks.

Looking to try some new things, has anyone tried the Dunlop Primetone hard-rubber picks? http://www.jimdunlop.com/product/Primetone-picks

For years and years I have used the Dunlop Nylon .73 and .88 grey picks... also the max-grip dunlops... (practically the same pick)

I know I have to have something grippy or it'll be on the ground.

Others I could look into?

Suggestions oh men of wisdom??

Thanks!

Re: Dunlop Primetone picks?

I wouldn't expect those to sound nice.
Try the new Dunlop Petrucci picks.
They've ended my search.

Re: Dunlop Primetone picks?

I don't know about the Primetones but the Jazztones are pretty decent. I don't like the thickness from the picks (I think that's one of the draws to those picks) but the shape and the tone are really nice. I'd use them for a ballad type song because the tone is really soft.

Re: Dunlop Primetone picks?

I use Dunlop Ultex Sharps 2.0mm picks. For me they have great grip and a nice attack and release of the string when plucked. They also have a great clarity to them which I really like. Also they give no flex not even a little.

Re: Dunlop Primetone picks?

You could first and foremost try to switch shape. My picking speed and accuracy improved vastly when is tarted using small teardrops. otherwise, I'd recommend looking into Pickboy picks ceramic grip series (http://www.osiamo.com/pickboypicks/ceramic). They last for-freaking-ever, have a raised grip surface and are really, really stiff/sturdy, so the 0.7 feels as stiff as most Dunlops that are past the 1 mm mark.

Re: Dunlop Primetone picks?

Check out Gravity Picks. They are a bit pricey, but definitely worth it. Plus they last a long time! I use the Classic XL 1.5 and am completely satisfied. I had no idea a pick makes such a difference in how I play.

+1

I believe the Petrucci picks are modified Dunlop Jazz picks. They're awesome!!!

+1 again. It's what I use. They are similar to the ultex sharp. A bit larger than the standard jazz III. I really like it a lot. The sharp point is noticeable quicker for me. By that I mean it comes off the string quicker making faster licks much cleaner and seemingly "faster"... You still have to do all the work yourself.
