Dunlop primetone picks?

Has anyone used these before? I just bought a pack today to try out. I noticed they seemed to give my playing a strange sound. So I looked at the pick and noticed this lol. It like that on both sides.

Re: Dunlop primetone picks?

I’ve got some but I never noticed that cutout in the edge. I’ll have to look at them again.

Re: Dunlop primetone picks?

Is it enough to give a double transient on the front of the note?

Re: Dunlop primetone picks?

Interesting. I like Ultex too, so I will have to try them out.

Re: Dunlop primetone picks?

Never used them, but I googled some images and looks like some do come like that

Dunlop primetone picks?

The less scratchy thing is good for me then I realise the my scratchy sound is all my fault because I have awful technique.

Re: Dunlop primetone picks?

I wasnt sure if it was supposed to be like that or not. I like the way they sound. But that one is the only one in the pack like that.

Re: Dunlop primetone picks?

I have a pack of those somewhere. I should find them and see if any are like that.

Re: Dunlop primetone picks?

That one looks weird, like they didn't get the bevel right. I have some of the Jazz iii versions and they have a slight smooth bevel on each edge that is supposed to glide across the strings. They are pretty good but I prefer the regular Ultex as they are a little more grippy and don't slip in my paw as much. I actually tried all the Jazz iii versions a few weeks back and these were second favorite to the regular Ultex.

Re: Dunlop primetone picks?

I have a bunch of picks I like
Primetone XL III 1.4mm
Jazz XL III Stiffo
Ultex Jazz III XL
Gravity 1.5mm Mini Sunrise
Dunlop Petrucci Jazz III

Wanting to try the new Dunlop Flow picks but right now the Primetones give me everything I need to be honest, enough attack to be precise but not scratchy, no flex so all the mistakes are on you which is both helpful and incredibly depressing.
They also glide off the string nicely.
In terms of tone they’re a tad richer I suppose than the standard tortex stuff but not as bright as acrylic or the standard ultexs.
I play ambient stuff, progressive metal and death/black stuff by the way if that’s in anyway important.

Re: Dunlop primetone picks?

looks like a mistake to me, nothing on their site looks similar

Re: Dunlop primetone picks?

I like Ultex, Tortex and Gators but didn't care for the Primes.

I have been using V-Picks, which I like. Very grippy, and a nice bright tone. The Stoneworks are interesting, too. Fast. The stone agates, etc., are beautiful.

Re: Dunlop primetone picks?

I contacted dunlop they want me to send pictures. They said it shouldn't have got passed QC.

Re: Dunlop primetone picks?

I love them. I actually think they give a fatter, rounder tone than cellulose, ultex, and tortex. I use around a .93 thickness. For me anything that makes the note sound thicker/fatter without losing presence or top end is good. These do that.

Primetones are Ultex, but with a bevel. They're essentially copies of BlueChip picks. I have owned/used lots of both, and feel they're about 90% as good as BC, for about 1/15th the cost.
