A couple weeks ago I changed the strings on my JV and picked up some Dunlop big stubbies at the recommendation of Zhanglin.
The JV came with Fender 250L 9's, I changed to Fender Super Bullet 10's. Great improvement. Nicer, sweeter tone on the unwound strings at the upper frets. Sounds fuller plugged and very noticeable when unplugged. Before the unplugged sound was so thin. Problem solved. But, I think I need to take it in for a truss rod adjustment. The wound strings buzz from about the 11th fret and higher. With the trem floating the thickers strings really don't feel much thicker or tighter. Even with 5 springs in the trem. Yea for floating trems.
I am beginning to really like the 3.0mm stubby picks. They are much easier for me to hold and comfortable. I haven't really noticed a tone diff because of the pick but perhaps that's because I changed picks and strings at the same time. I test between the old mediums and the stubbies and check.
There you go. For What its worth
