I have one of these.They run on 18 Volts, so they are better suited to being left on. They have their own 'colour' but are very versatile with the three-way eq.

One thing I'm going to mention is the quality and unrepresentative sound in the Youtube videos I've seen demoing Klon Centaur, JHS's Klon clone, and also the KoT and the Ecstacy.

IMO, most of the videos I've seen are useless, the tones they demonstrate are wimpy, and they don't really show what the pedals can do.

Maybe this is because most are recorded through an amp that sounds like it's barely loud enough to generate any tone of its own. When I first plugged in the Wampler I had the amp on about volume 2 and the Wampler didn't sound great at all. Sounded like the wimpy, grainy fuzz I heard in the Youtube videos.Most of us can't turn our amps up loud enough on the gig to get them to truly overdrive on their own.

I like to gig with a pair of Deluxe Reverbs but I can rarely turn them up passed 4. That makes for a real nice tone with some natural overdrive when I play my ES-335, but when I'm playing my Tele or my Strat, I get very little overdrive and that's what prompted my search for the ultimate clean/overdrive pedal.

However, none of my favorite pedals give me the tone I'm looking for unless the amp is turned up to near gigging volumes.

Ocd worked great for touch sensitivity... But for my main sound I like the TS mid bump. I use a fulldrive now. I do wish it was a bit more dynamic, but it works.

The fat boost was great too, but too fat with my buckers.

A good treble boost can be a leave it on all the time type as well. I want to get a beano boost and play around with it.

I go from clean funk and country style to chugging metallica type and it would be great to be able to just use my volume knob and be happy with the tone. My setup works great, just alwys looking.

My biggest issue with the OCD is the funky impedance...it is very dependent on where it is in your chain.

I can take that sort of picky nature with a fuzz but not an OD but it does seem to work for a lot of people.

Nice Treble Boosters are great but they only really work in situations where volume is not an issue and thats not a situation I find myself in often!

^ I agree... Plus like I said it didn't have the right push I liked. If someone made a dynamic TS style drive, I'd be all over it I think.

The T.C. Electronic Dark Matter was a very dynamic pedal that cleaned up really well with the volume knob. That's not how I tend to play and I've never tried any of your fancy boutique stuff, so I can't really recommend it to you, but if you see one in a store, you should plug it in to find out.

You might try a Mad Professor Sweet Honey, if you haven't already. I have the Joyo clone and love it as a leave on all the time, I rarely ever turn it off. Depending on which pedals I have with me, I will use the volume knob to go from rhythm to solo sounds, or I'll push it with another OD pedal, both set ups work well and it sounds great. I'm sure the MP version would sound even better.

The problem I've found with any sort of overdrive/disortion effects are that they've always changed the EQ enough to keep them from being on all the time. I've gone through a fair amount of pedals and none have been truly transparent except for clean boost pedals (I had a GoudieFX Crystal Boost that was nice and I dig the clean boost side of my Kingsley Jester). I've owned an Analogman King of Tone V4 and liked the clean side, but that rolled off the highend a touch and softened the transients (going from memory). Great pedal for some light clipping action, but hardly something I want to keep on all the time. The Kingsley Jester is pretty dynamic, but even that has it's own tone when you get out of the conservative settings on the pedal.
 
Walrus Audio Voyager for light to medium gain.

Emerson EM-Drive for light. First OD pedal I've ever truly considered an always on thing.

Both very dynamic and responsive to pick attack. Both sonically complex and articulate.

Well I've used a few like that. The MXR micro amp may be enough for you .Crank it up so it od's your amp input. If not try the MXR custom 78 distortion. I'm currently using the Vox JS Saturator which cleans up ok too.
I tend to use an already slightly overdriven amp setting and then the pedal.

I've started to do this with my Zvex 2-in-1... leave it on almost permanently and use the volume pot.
Keep in mind the 2-in-1 and SHO family of Zvex pedals aren't OD boxes but but a preamp that adds bass and highs as well.
A pretty weird box overall but I love it.
It absolutely kills at pushing a slightly dirty amp. It doesn't compress the sound unless you want to.

It retains the high-end when rolling down the volume pot that you normally lose, so it's much more usable.
Honestly I hadn't thought of it until Lew mentioned his approach. It's nice. :D

OCD's are pretty good. So is the hartman LM308 on the low gain side.
The bad news is neither of them are as responsive as a fuzz face in terms of what you are looking for with guitar volume knob response...but you probably know that already.

I'm half gassing to try out one of these Maxon od-820's for the same reasons you mentioned tho.
