Dysfunctional wiring

I have a question… I installed SD Jazz Blues humbucker set on a new build and thought I would try something new. I installed them using stacked concentric pots so it would have 2 volumes and 2 tones. I used the applicable SD wiring diagram but when my 3 way switch is placed in the middle, my volume knobs do not work independently, they actually counteract with each other… you turn one vole off and they both go off. I’ve always used 1 volume, but I don’t think this is normal… any ideas of what I have wired wrong?

Actually, this is the way *most* guitars with 2 volumes & 2 tones works (LPs, etc). Guitars with 2 volumes & 2 tones can be wired so they are independent, but there are side effects. The tone can get darker as you turn the volume down. There are lots of threads about peoples' experiences with this wiring (good and bad) here, so before you dive back in, check those out.

this is normal depending on how you wired the volumes up. if you flip the input and output wires on the volume pots (lugs 1 & 2) you can have independent wiring

Thank you, that is very helpful
