what should i get?

i already got the money for the Ebow, btu should i just save up for a new amp?

or should i get both, Ebow soon and the amp much later(because i want a mark 4)?

:)

Re: E-bow or amp?

Both, you can allways use them whenever you need them. Plus its cool to have extra gear. OH ya.

Re: E-bow or amp?

Ebows are relatively inexpensive compared to a decent amp. They're cool little units, but of relatively little use, with the exception of annoying my wife when I'm playing unplugged and she's trying to watch TV in the same room (...."will you PLEASE get out of here with that *$%# ing thing?..."). I'd save your money (my wife would probably sell my Ebow to you cheap) for the amp.

Re: E-bow or amp?

Amp, but I'd say get an ADA MP-1 and do the 3.666 mod, it makes it sound Mesa like. Then match that up with a good 6L6 poweramp, and you're set. Or hell, I know you're dad is an electrician, get a Mark schem, and have him build you one!

Re: E-bow or amp?

I'd get the ebow and continue saving for the amp. ebows are like 80 bucks amps are like 5 times that. I'd save until you have 160, then get an ebow to tide you over.

Re: E-bow or amp?

An ebow is a small handheld electronic device used to modulate the guitar's strings. You can achieve violin-like effects, since the string vibrates without you actually picking the string. Jimmy Page popularized this effect back in the day- I don't see a whole lot of folks using these today. I've fooled around with them before, but never saw it necessary to actually go out and buy one. Save up for the Mesa Boogie!

Check it out! Some of those sound clips sound like they were taken from a Ren & Stimpy episode! You know, when Stimpy says something off the wall and Ren just kinda looks at him with an annoyed face? Joy!

Ebows are cheap, and do a lot more than the infinite sustain rountine, that's just what most people do with them. They are an instrument unto themselves, and they take time and practice to learn. If you get good with cross string bowing, and string muting you can do a lot of cool sequencer type arpeggio lines, horn like parts, and exciting dynamic stuff within the context of picked stuff as well. You can definitely get both, most people consider the ebow a novelty and not much more, it doesn't have to be ... that's more a reflection of what the individual player does with it. Like one of the guy stated, you can do both in this case. They are made by Heet Sound Products ... look up there site on the web.

Best advice ... If you realy want to learn to use it, go by the instructions and practice the techniques they show you, also pay attention to watch they say in ragrd to volume and tone control settings, along with placement to pup.work on your clean channel first to get your technique somewhat gelled. And DO NOT DO THE ENERGY SLIDE LOUD!!! It will damage your hearing, and might even harm your amp ...very low on that one, volume knob down, tone too. :)

Re: E-bow or amp?

i went by the instructions and am having a ball with it!!

im gonna post clips sometime today!

Re: E-bow or amp?

I have found that I prefer using my E-bow with my guitar synth more than actual guitar ... for string patches and the like, it's much more natural sounding than pressing the 'Hold' switch or using a MIDI controller to hold the note.

Re: E-bow or amp?

I use it for recording a lot. You can do a track of high 5th or 7th to the key that you're in, and fade it in occasionally on held chords. Great "mock" feedback.
