Hello,
I've just found an ad by a local guy, he has an E-MU 0404 soundcard for sale for a very good price, CD's, accessories, softwares included. Is E-MU stuff good quality? I haven't found much info with the Search function.

Re: E-mu 0404

AFAIK E-MU makes good stuff. It looks good. How much does he want?

Tomorrow I'll get the Terratec Phase 88, damn excited how it's like.

He wants ~$110, it costs about ~$150 new here. Having browsed through EMU's website, I think I'll rather buy a 1212M v2. :D It costs more but I think it'll be worth in the long run. I need at least two balanced outs, furthermore the 1212 has less noise than the 0404. Not that I'd notice the difference on a two- or three-track recording...

Phase 88, you mean this one? Looks like a monster soundcard! Congrats and good luck!

Re: E-mu 0404

E-MU makes good stuff, but only get it if it's an 'm' series - it'll have 'm' after the model name.

The m models have waaaay better converters, definitely worth the price!

That said, E-Mu is known to have driver issues, and I've actually had a driver conflict crash an old HDD of mine because of one of their cards :(.

I had serious problems with my Emu sound card, barely got it installed then it wouldn't work right - I took it back for a M-Audio card.

Just looked at your link, buyer beware that's the same card I had trouble with.

M-Audio is worth a look too.

The bassist of my band has this card card and we did the recordings for the demo cd on his pc. We sometimes recorded 4-5 tracks at the same time and he had only a AMD XP 2200+ and everything went smooth. But it's a lot of money and I don't know if the card has everything you need.

Re: E-mu 0404

Hmmm... I need to think that over once more then... Thanks for the info!

Re: E-mu 0404

Well, I bought a 1212M v2... :D Patchmix will be difficult to learn but I'll be able to handle everything in one place with the right inputs at last (I also have a Toneport and a MIDI keyboard).
