can anybody give me a discription of the tone? ive played a real 59 bassman, but never had the opportunity on a silverfaced one......

Totally, totally differant amp and circuit design from a 59 5F6-A tweed Bassman. TOTALLY! With some mods, you can make that head sound like a Super Reverb without reverb or you can mod it further for more overdrive, etc. Blackface and silverface Bassmans have a similar output transformer to a Super Reverb, tho it's for the 4 ohm load of two 8 ohm speakers in parallel rather the the 2 ohm load of four 8 ohm speakers. They are a great platform for mods, but without mods sound like you're playing a guitar through a very clean bass amp.

there's a blues player from San Jose that plays an LP Custom through a SF Bassman, and he sounds pretty good :)

A lot of folks love those for guitar--if you have the cash grab it! There are a couple of guys (one on the Les Paul Forum and the other on the Fender Forum that you can get to from the LPF) that are nuts about Bassman heads and if you search those forums you will get some good info. I think some guys here use them and hopefully they'll chime in, too.
