Hey Y'all, I've got an early 80's JB, and when I put the meter on it, she read right at 19K. Any other JB I have measured came in around 16K. This particular JB is a little less bright than any others I've had. She's a real sweety. Any one else ever have one read this high, or higher??? Just curious. :)

Well, I don't know how lucky I am. I've got this seemingly Cool old JB, but I don't use JB's LOL Just my Luck :)

Yeah, it's clean and clear as all get out !!! I wired it up in a Les Paul Standard, and played it through one of my JCM 800's, and it sounds Killer. Warmer than any other JB I've had in the past. Don't really look like there's anything special about it, I had it in a Les Paul back in the 80's, then switched to Pearly Gates awhile back. I got a new ohmeter, so I was just tryin it out on some pickups I had stored. This one just happened to catch my attention. :)

lucky you..yea..i've heard about those 80s JB's...do you have any pics?

I had a pair of early JB's once, The nice'st sweetest set of pups I ever heard. nice find> its a keeper. If you dont want it... I'll swap you any other SD pup for it.... :)

A JB should read in the range of 16.4K-17K
i had one that was 17.1K it was not all that old either.
19K is probably a indication of something being wrong with it:(
it should not have been wound that high;)

who knows, if it sounds good maybe even great, then who cares. ive never heard of one that high but its cool none the less

i wanted to ask? how did you take the reading on the JB? just wondering;)

I got an 80s JB. Not as bright as a new one I once had, I`ll have to measure it as now I`m curious to. I like the old ones better that`s for sure.

to the best of my 20 year knowledge
aging does not change a resistance of a pup, some swear that the older pre logo duncans sound better? this may be due to the aging of the wire and magnet though?
But, you can have two brand new duncan JB's or whatever model of the same from the same order and one will have a different reading of resistance than the other. they all have a resistance tolerence of +/-

That is so true. Still I`m just curious as to what measurements I will get.;)

i have a duncan distortion from 1982 that reads 15.75k which is lower than normal don't know if it is because it is "aged" or if it came that way since it was a long time ago !

Well, there's absolutely NOTHING wrong with this pickup. I just recently took it out of one of my Les Pauls, and switched to a PG. It works and sounds GREAT, and is structurally A-1, just like the day I bought it. Think maybe I'll keep it, might come in handy !!!

I measured the standard way. Using an ohmeter, I left the red and white wires on the pup tinned together and taped off, and put the red from the meter to the hot, and the black to the green and bare( ground). I know the meter is accurate, I measured some Pearly's, and they all came out at around 8K to 8.2K. I also measured some other JB's, and they came in right around 16K. I measured an older 70's Gibby PAF, and it read around 14K. This JB that read 19K doesn't really sound " special" or anything, but it is warmer than other JB's that I've used. I measured it several times, and it read 19K each time.

Oh Yeah, almost forgot....I zero'd the needle, made sure the meter had a good battery, etc....so...the reading should be accurate. I also measured some other pups, and they all read where they were supposed to. It's really no big deal, just kinda cool that this old Duncan may be a bit unique.
