Early Duncan ID

Snagged a tele pup on ebay, supposedly a Duncan tele pup from late 70s. This one has cloth wires, flat poles, tin-looking (not copper) baseplate, and a football shaped sticker that says Seymourized. No idea on resistance yet, I should get it in later this week. Someone has told me that the football shaped Seymourized sticker means that this was a rewind, is that true? If so, and it was from the late 70s, then I'll be wondering what the pickup originally was. I've never seen a Duncan with a tin baseplate, unless thats something he used in the 70s. Please let me know any info you may have.

Looks like a very early Broadcaster, we just had one here in the shop.
If yours measures 8.5k then were correct.

IIRC the Seymourized Football is /was for rewinds, but I haven´t seen one in ages and may not remember correctly

I got the mystery pickup in. Unfortunately, it does not look old, it looks like a recent Nocaster, with the steel plate, although there is light rust on the steel. I was hoping it was possibly an early Broadcaster, or even earlier. It reads 6.51k on my meter. All it says on the sticker is Seymourized, Santa Barbara, CA 93103. However, if those stickers are old, I guess I'll assume that it might be some kind of 70s pickup that was rewound. The thing that is confusing is the plate, the only pups I've seen with steel plate are recent Nocasters and Hamels, don't remember any others from the 70s. Maybe someone snagged the original plate and Seymour stuck on a steel one?

The same here. I owned one for a while, before donating it to a close buddy of mine. It too measured something like 6.70K (I checked my list to get the DC figure). It's been more than 5 years now tho!

That one was a vintage tele lead (no ideas about the exact year) and was rewound in early 80s. It also had a steel base plate (BTW Owen Duffy, Fralin, also use steel base plates ).

I didn't know the answer to this question, so I asked the man-himself. Here's what he wrote:

Hello Guitarists…This pickup looks like it might have been a late 70’s or early 80’s floor production Broadcaster but the DC resistance seems a little low…The Broadcaster should be around 7.6 K DC…If you look at the photo, the three mounting holes looked liked they were drilled out…our original ones are stamped out and usually did not have the flashing as seen in the photo… The sticker was put on rewinds with a number written on the sticker to let me know the pickup number and who we did the winding for… It looks like the number was worn off… Can’t tell if the pickup is wrapped with string or with black acetate tape… My Broadcaster pickups have raised donuts around the top of the pole pieces and this photo the poles are flush or pushed in from the top…I push my magnets in from the back…It may have been modified but hard to tell…SWD 6-9-06​
