This morning I pulled my old box of pickups off the top shelf and was pleased to see I have a plethora of old Strat pickups...
Some of which I recorded and taped impedance to.

So... I have a pair of old RED Hot Strat Stacks... Have these changed? Their values? besides appearance? and name?
The 2N.G has a solid cover... The 2B.N (21K) looks like today's...

Can someone tell me what these pickups are and are they both neck pu's?

Thanks!

I have been a member of this Forum since nearly it's inception... not sure why I'm starting over again... whatever... I was Sonnyblu42... But it's good to be back.

Welcome to the forum!

Do you have access to a meter to check the DCR? That, and a few pics might help us figure out what you have there.

Thanks Mincer... Will do...

Inductance on the 2B.N reads 21K so that could be 19K the 2N.G I do not know yet...

Cool Old Duncans - I've used the Red Covered Ones a time or two long ago and thought they were great sounding pickups.

I was digging for a Strat PU to put in the neck pos. of my Tele... when I found all my old pickups.
(Including some old Les Paul mini Std's from 1975) But... I do not wish to route the body that much.

I have found an old set of Staggered Strats that have a nice protective cover on the bobbins... They read 6.27K

I wish I could get a Black cover for this 2N*G

Re: Early Red Strat Hot Stacks 2B.N and 2N.G ?

id guess the 2ng is a neck model and the 2bn is a bridge model

Thanks Jeremy... That makes sense... I may try the neck in my Tele... or hide the Bridge under an Esquire pickguard! LOL

I've never seen any of the red Strat stacks, but I used to own a red Tele Hot Stack. Honestly I like the black one I have now better; the red one had harsh high end and seemed a bit scooped in comparison. I've heard that the red Tele Hot Stacks are ceramic and a different wind from the newer ones which are A5.
