Re: Earthing My guitar please help ?????

I think someone told me once that reversing the wires on the output jack will do that, or not getting a proper ground.

Wait for some one else to chime in before doing anything though please.

There should be an earth wire leading from your bridge into the control cavity. This can be the cause of the humming you describe if it has come unsoldered from the earth circuit of your electrics. Sometimes it is soldered to a vol pot case to earth it, sometimes to interneal screening in the control cavity.

Re: Earthing My guitar please help ?????

There is only one wire going to the spring claw and im not sure whare to put the earth fom the volume pot. This is my first strat that i have ever wired up fom scratch so i havent a clue ? I was told to put the earth to the body cavity but where is that ?

Sorry its my first self build havent a clue

The body cavity is the hole they cut out of your guitar to fit the electrics in. Sometimes they are 'screened' to help prevent hum, that means it is lined with thin self-adhesive metal foil, sometimes copper. You need all earths (from tone and vol pots, jack socket, pickups and bridge + any screening) to be connected together, to form a continuous circuit.
